Moving to a new apartment is an exciting time in your life, but it takes a bit of research beforehand to decide which part of town you should live in. Whether you’re moving across the city or across the country, it’s valuable to take the time to discover important information about the surrounding community before you uproot and rent a new apartment.
In a recent ForRent.com survey, renters were asked to share the top three factors that most affect where they choose to live. Here are the top three responses:
1. Commute to work. Since many of your waking hours are spent at work, it makes sense to live near your job. By avoiding a long commute, you’ll save gas and time each day. There are endless possibilities of what you can do with the extra time – go the the gym, cook, join a professional organization or athletic team, just to name a few!
2. Nearby shopping. Convenience is less of a luxury and more of a necessity these days, since people are becoming busier than ever. Living near shopping areas, whether it’s grocery stores, drug stores, malls, wholesale stores and the like, provides an opportunity for you to quickly drop in and pick up the items that you need without taking much time out of your day.
3. Proximity to family. Nearly ⅓ of respondents ranked this as an important factor when considering where to live. After all, spending time with family is valuable, and something that many people would love to do more of! Also, if you have children, living near relatives may offer you the added benefit of an on-call child care provider.
