When Pantone released its 2015 color of the year, Marsala, not everyone was on board right away.
It is a dark, rich color, which can seem a tad daunting at first.
But incorporating it into your wardrobe or home can actually be fairly easy. You don’t have to do a complete overhaul of your space or wardrobe; just add a few items here and there and you will be good to go!
One thing I really am loving about this color is not only the richness of it but how well it will transition into each season, especially fall and winter next year.
It’s such an elegant color that works well on its own or as an accent.
It goes well with neutrals and earth tones, adding rich texture and wonderful layers.
Starting with a living area, I found that I didn’t have to dig deep to gather items that would mix in well. Marsala will blend in perfect with just about any sofa: white, gray, blue, mustard or any leather.
I decided to work around a white sofa as a good base.
Throw pillows are my first go-to. They are a safe, cheap addition to any space. You can toss them literally in any space for a splash of color and texture. Mix with a couple more to complete your layered look. Fur is still hot right now and works well for added texture.
Art can be added in numerous ways. Whether it is typography, framed prints or painted canvases, it’s a great way to pull in accent colors. I am personally a fan of DIY art. Painting a canvas is super cost-effective; you can get the size you need and pull in your own colors.
In our living space, I have numerous throw blankets. I am one who is always cold, and they are in constant use currently with the cold weather. Plus, they are great for adding in texture and warmth.
Accent chairs are another great eye-catching way to add in color, and they’re great for weight and texture in a room. You can find accent chairs in a range of prices and sizes, and you don’t have to drop a fortune to update yours.
Floor cushions or poofs are still frontrunners for trends right now. Again, texture, texture, texture. They also add in extra seating for family night or when it’s your turn to host game night.
Let’s bring Marsala into fashion and beauty, shall we?
Bringing Marsala into your wardrobe shouldn’t be as daunting as you might think at first. I found a bunch of great items on my first search that I am pretty impressed with.
You can start with something as simple as a pair of eye-catching earrings. I love this pair for not only the color but the fantastic shape!
Phone cases are probably the easiest way to make a switch to the new trends. There are millions of them out there, and you can find a great one to make a personalized statement. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter!
The weekend bag is probably one of the best pieces to bring into your wardrobe; it’s perfect for the traveler. Or grab a Marsala bag for your new gym tote.
And while we are talking bags, crossbodies are a favorite of mine. They’re perfect for adding layers, texture and a splash of color, not to mention a great statement piece. I absolutely love crossbodies for my daily errands too!
You can stay with a classic frame or up your game and go for one that is currently circulating. I am digging both of these, and the color is beyond fabulous.
This everyday hat will mix in well with any of your outfits. Perfect for errand days, concerts and your outdoor activities, this will blend into your wardrobe seamlessly.
You can add a splash here and there by adding in a couple coats of polish and this eyeliner. It will be fabulous with a neutral shadow!
Lastly, shoes are a great way to add a pop of color. I am a huge fan of wearing basic colors with a pair of shoes that are showstoppers! Heels are perfect for work and date nights. The flats are what I have my eye on for everyday activities with a pair of skinnies, a tee, crossbody and a great pair of sunglasses!
