Lets face it, cleaning isn’t fun. Especially since most security deposits are only refundable if you leave your place looking sparkling new. Which means you really need to scrub, polish and shine just about everything and everywhere. So, for those of you who are just now facing this dreaded task, here are a few tips before you break out your rubber gloves!
Here is a list of the products you will need:
Lysol
Scrubbing Bubbles
Wet Wipes
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers
S.O.S. Steel Wool Sponges
Scrub Brush
Windex
Mop/Vacuum
Paper Towels/Disposable Towels
First and foremost, get some Wet Wipes. Take an entire container and wipe down every single surface of your apartment with them. These little babies are a great start to initially disinfecting germs and removing the first layer of dust, dirt, spills or whatever mess you have. After you have completed the first phase, it’s time to break out the heavy artillery.
S.O.S Steel Wool Soap Sponges might be the best invention ever. They’re definitely made for modern cleaning. Attack your kitchen with one of these and suddenly you have brand new appliances. These sponges are made to cut through set in grease, so put in the effort and really start scrubbing. To effectively clean your stove and oven, remove all the burners, drip pans (if you have them) and racks and wipe everything down with the sponge. You’ll also want to rinse everything with water to remove the blue soap residue that can be left behind. Don’t forget to clean the inside of your fridge either! Soap and water will do the trick here. Once your kitchen is clean, it’s time to head to the bathroom.
Lysol (aka bleach) and Scrubbing Bubbles are the star players here; don’t be afraid to use them. Spray everything down and let the liquid sit for about five to ten minutes. This will allow the bleach to set in and dissolve away that filmy layer of shower grime that tends to build up over time. After you clean up the Lysol, break out the scrubbing bubbles for the extra clean effect. Cover the entire bathroom with this then rinse away with water and a towel. Once you have completed that, Windex your mirror for a streak free reflection and admire your hard work.
On to the next task! Depending on your flooring situation, either mop or vacuum your entire place thoroughly. If the stains in your carpet are really bad, consider bringing in a professional. It just might be worth the money. Now, with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, go over all the baseboards in your apartment. These effective little wonder workers can also be used to remove scratches and dirt from walls, doors, or really just about anything. Lastly, it’s time to dust and change your air vents. Dusting is as simple as wetting a paper towel and going over ceiling fan blades, blinds and window seals. If the blinds are really icky, remove them and rinse them off with soap and water.
Now, if you’ve correctly completed the process, you have probably spent the entire day cleaning. BRAVO! It can be a pain and time consuming but it absolutely pays off in the long run! Enjoy your clean apartment!
