It is time to move on from your current apartment, but how do you ensure that you get that deposit back? We have all of the tips that you need to know to make your apartment look like the day you moved in.
Follow the list below and your deposit is sure to be back in your hand in no time at all!
Start from top to bottom! Wipe down ceiling light fixtures and get those cobwebs from the ceiling. Ensure the wall holes are filled and any marks are removed from the walls. Give the windows and doors a once over to ensure they are clean. Don’t forget those baseboards as dust is likely to accumulate there especially behind furniture. Go from room to room doing these tasks but leave the floors for now! Get all of the dust and dirt down from the surfaces and onto the floors first.
Think about those small and forgotten areas like window blinds. A great tip is to put some old socks on your hands to make it quicker when wiping down those small surfaces. You can see more about our tips for cleaning window blinds here.
You will need to spend a little longer in the kitchen and bathroom. Once again go from top to bottom wiping down the surfaces and cleaning as you go. Leave those floors for last! In the bathroom, clean your fixtures and be sure to get inside of those cabinets. You will also want to get any exhaust fan that is in the room.

The same rules will apply in the kitchen. This is probably going to be the most time consuming room so plan accordingly. Clean from top to bottom once again and get inside of those cabinets. Give the oven, stove, refrigerator, and any other appliance a once over. You can try our tips for cleaning your stove and oven here. Be sure to wipe down the outside of the cabinets as well as the inside. This will make things look 100 times better.
Finally, it is time to do those floors! Start at the furthest point from the front door. Sweep, mop, or vacuum all surfaces. Work your way to the front door as you clean. Everything should be out of your apartment at this point. You are just doing a final sweep (literally) ensuring that everything is out and clean. This will ensure you don’t get any tracks on the freshly cleaned floor on the way out. Got carpet stains? Try these remedies to remove them before leaving.
Once outside, do a quick sweep of any outdoor areas and buildings. Did you get all of your possessions and clean those up as well? If so, pat yourself on the back and head out on your new adventure. Rest assured that you have done everything possible to make sure that your deposit comes back to you!
