When dealing with small spaces, I often find myself trying to find creative ways to achieve what I need without sacrificing my style. My husband 100% hates footboards. He’s very tall and I can completely understand this problem; however, I’m short and I like to decorate. This just gives me the opportunity to get creative with the end of the bed.
I was recently given these old chairs that have been in my family for years, and quite frankly, I didn’t know what to do with all of them. Currently I use one at my desk, but it isn’t a great fit and I still have two lying around. I decided to line these up at the foot of my bed to not only create the illusion of a footboard but also provide a little extra seating — it happens to be a great place to put shoes on.
Maybe comfortable is more your style. There are tons of small couches and little settees that are readily available, providing you with that little bit of extra coziness in a bedroom. Better Homes and Gardens shows us exactly how to achieve this look.
If you don’t have the space for a whole couch and maybe aren’t ready to sacrifice comfort, consider using two chairs that are smaller than a couch. This will still provide a cozy spot, but it’s much easier to move out of the way if necessary. It’s also less of a commitment to your bedroom furniture.
However, if you aren’t looking for seating but could maybe stand to gain a little extra storage, a deep chest is a beautiful and traditional option. There are so many things that can be stored in a chest: out-of-season wardrobe, shoes, paperwork or linens.
Are you looking to be more trendy? I love how Ursula at Homemade by Carmona used tall baskets at the foot of her bed. This is a great way to achieve that extra storage without sacrificing style! It’s a great place for pillows or extra linens.
Storage and style doesn’t stop at the foot of your bed, either; be sure and check out these great solutions on how to utilize under-the-bed storage!
