Extraordinary Uses for Ordinary Items

Apartment Living

It’s a New Year and a new you!  Discovering a new meaning for all the old things around the house is what the New Year is about!  Check out these tips for enhancing existing items around your apartment.
Dryer Sheets
Be static and streak-free! Add a few drops of water to a used dryer sheet and wipe down faucets and remove stubborn soap scum from glass shower doors.
Baking Soda and Peroxide
Have whiter teeth and shining pots-and-pans! Many people know that baking soda and peroxide is a remedy for Clean Bottleswhiter teeth.  This good ol’ combination also gives pots and pans a new face lift. Mix ¼ cup of baking soda in a small glass bowl and add hydrogen peroxide until it makes a paste. Then rub it in the soiled area and voila; your pots and pans will add a new sparkle in the kitchen again.
Pillowcase
After nights of catching Z’s, your old pillowcase can be transformed to catch dust bunnies! One of the most daunting cleaning tasks for me is cleaning ceiling fans because they accumulate thick dust.  Slide a pillow case over each fan blade and wipe them clean. The best news is there are no cleaning products required!
Blow Dryer
Not only is a blow dryer a handy contraption for drying hair, it is a miracle tool for removing water rings. There is no need to replace that beautiful wooden table!  Aim the blow dryer on high directly at the stain. It may take a few minutes, but the water ring should magically disappear into thin air!
Walnuts in shells, one upon the other, one nut is open
Nuts
You may go nuts over this tip: one walnut + a scratched up piece of furniture = brand new furniture! Okay, maybe not brand new furniture, but rubbing the walnut over the damaged area will darken the spot and make it invisible. Trust me, it’s worth a shot!
These “who knew” tips can turn something old into something new, and leave you with more money in your pockets, too! Now, there should be no reason to break your budget around the house with these useful tips.  If you liked these ideas, check out more fun repurposing ideas on our Pinterest board.
