Robert Rodriguez
Born in San Antonio, this famous filmmaker lived in the Texas city for quite some time. He attended San Antonio’s St. Anthony High School and was commissioned to film the school’s football games. He was subsequently fired from the gig for filming in a way that was too cinematic. He eventually left San Antonio but didn’t stray far, attending The University of Texas at Austin. He went on to become famous and successful but never forgot his roots and frequently shoots his films in Texas.
Jared Padalecki
Star of hit television shows like Gilmore Girls and Supernatural, Padalecki is a true-blue San Antonio native. Born in 1982, Padalecki spent his youth in San Antonio, attending both elementary and high school in the Southern city. He initially planned to attend The University of Texas after graduating high school in 2000 but instead decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting. Lucky for his fans, that move paid off, but his home will always be San Antonio.

Joan Crawford
Originally named Lucille Fay Lesueur, this classic film legend was born in San Antonio in the early 1900s. Crawford’s biological father abandoned her mother a few months before she was born, and when her mother eventually remarried, the three of them moved out of San Antonio to Lawton, Oklahoma.
Shaquille O’Neal
This famous NBA star was actually born in Newark, N.J., but moved to a San Antonio military base due to his stepfather’s career in the military. Shaq attended Robert G. Cole High School in the Texas city, where he was a member of the school’s basketball team. The future basketball superstar led his team to a 68-1 record over a two-year period and, during his senior year, helped the team win the state championship. Shaq left San Antonio to attend college in Louisiana and then went on to have an extremely successful and lucrative career in professional basketball.

Carol Burnett
The legendary comedic star was born in San Antonio and lived there for a period of her youth. Her parents both suffered from alcoholism, so the young Burnett was sent to live with her grandmother, and they eventually moved to Hollywood. Burnett didn’t stray far from Hollywood after that, but San Antonio will always be her first home.
