Fork Rings

Apartment Living

Want to have cool looking stainless steel rings but don’t want to spend the money?  Here is a nifty idea from a blog I found on DIY crafts. These are fork rings, made from old forks (or even spoons!) with cool handle designs. All you need is: the fork/spoon, a metal cutter, a file, a hacksaw, sandpaper, paper, pen, needle-nosed pliers, and possibly a butane torch.

Step 1) Use the piece of paper to measure how much paper it takes to wrap around the finger you want the ring for. Start from the end of the paper and make a mark at the point where that end meets the rest of the paper around your finger.

Step 2) Measure out the length of the fork/spoon on the paper, and then use the metal cutter to cut the appropriate length.

Step 3) Use the sandpaper to smooth off the cut edge so that it doesn’t cut your skin. If you like, you can use the butane torch to help with this, or you can coat the edge with clear nail polish. Don’t skimp on the sandpapering though!

Step 4) Take the needle nosed pliers and slowly begin to bend the metal into a circular shape. When you finish, you have your very own fork ring!

You can get most of these implements fairly inexpensively. If you don’t want to sacrifice some of your own forks or spoons, visit a thrift store to see what they have. Happy hunting!
