5 Outdoor Game Ideas for You and Your Friends

5 Outdoor Game Ideas for You and Your Friends

The days are longer, the nights are hotter, and you may be asking yourself how can I make the most of my time with my friends? While the beach is always great and lounging by a pool has it perks, sometimes you just want to get a little active! So, here are a few examples that are sure to provide fun times and memories for your friends and family!

Happy friends on rest at beach

Bucket Pong

A fun spin on a classic! This is great activity that can be played in a backyard or at the beach! The best part? It’s easy and requires little funds to participate. Chances are you can head to your local super market or, even better, a dollar store to purchase all the items you need. Bigger buckets or cheap trash cans make for the best setup. Once you are set up and have your volleyball or basketball in hand, form a team of two and the standard rules of the tabletop version apply! Bocce Ball Last but not least is good ol’ bocce ball. This game is full of hand-eye coordination and ruthless tenacity. Any game that involves the main strategy to purposefully try and sabotage the opposing team is a win. The rules? There are no rules – at least not in this version. Toss the little white ball (the jack) and get your colored bocce balls as close to it as possible by knocking your opponents colors as far away as possible. This game is sure to get everyone pumped up with a little friendly competition.

Corn Hole This tailgate activity doesn’t just have to exist in the fall. Grab your boards, some friends, some snacks and drinks, a speaker for tunes and set-up a tournament! Corn hole is ideal for the beach and/or backward barbecues. Hint: People get REALLY in to it when you form teams, create brackets and compete towards a prize. Kan Jam For those of you who are not familiar with this versatile ground or water game, the rules are basic and easy to follow. Think corn hole but with buckets aka Kans and a Frisbee. Teams play to 21 or Insta Win! Teams of two or one on one. Teams take turns. Kans on the ground must be 50 feet apart. Smaller Kans in water must be 17 feet apart. Sink the Frisbee in the top of the Kan opening and its a three-point “Bucket Slam Dunk.” Hit the backside of the Kan and it’s a one-point “Dinger” redirected hit. Toss the Frisbee through the cut-out opening in the middle of the Kan and it’s an “Insta Win!” Hit the bottom of the Kan and it’s a two-point “Deuce” direct hit. This game is blast and something different to experience! DIY Outside Glow in the Dark Bowling Bowling doesn’t just have to take place at the lanes anymore! Forget the ugly shoes and the rental fees. Grab a slip n’ slide, nine empty water bottles, some glow sticks, a volleyball and you are in business. Crack the glow sticks and place them in the water bottles. Don’t forget to keep some water in the bottles to keep them weighed down. Place in order (like bowling pins) and let the games begin. For extra fun, add some water and soap to the slip n’ slide! Hopefully these summer games provided you with some ideas and get you out moving around! If you are feeling really creative, take each of the games mentioned above and break them up into stations. Think an “Olympics” of some sort! Just don’t forget to stay hydrated and wear your sunblock!
