So there is this small company out there called Google, perhaps you have heard of them. Google is always looking for ways to expand their services be it with email, search engines or operating systems. The one thing they all have in common is reliability and speed. With the rollout of Google Fiber, it is no different. Google Fiber is a new alternative to traditional cable companies or satellite dishes. They offer internet and television packages and deliver them at speeds that leave even the largest tech nerds amazed. You can only find it in select areas as Google is still in the development stage, however, they have plans to eventually take it nation wide.
Kansas City, MO:
One of the lucky cities to already have Fiber is Kansas City, MO. In a world where high speed internet seems to almost be a birth right, but Kansas City is on another level. Google can deliver internet speeds to your apartment at up to 1 gigbit, which is equal to 1,000 Mbps, for only $70 per month! Additionally, if you opt to add the television package ($120 per month for Internet + TV), and with that you will recieve 200+ full HD channels. Which is more than enough to keep you entertained in your apartment on a rainy day. To put all of that into perspective, in Kansas City you have the option to go with Time Warner Cable, instead. You can also get an internet + TV package from them, however, their speed maxes out at 30Mbps and the package costs $129.99 per month. 30 Mbps vs. 1,000 Mbps? Fiber wins. Provo, UT:
Another one of the lucky cities to have the Google option is Provo, UT. Much like Kansas City, in Provo you have the option to subscribe to Google’s internet only or internet + TV package. 200+ TV channels and up to 1,000 Mbps upload and download speeds. The pricing is also identicle. For the internet + TV package, it will run you $120 per month (click here for full pricing and details). How does that compare to your other options in Provo? One of your cable options is Comcast. With Comcast you also have different package plans for internet only or internet + TV. However their features and speeds don’t even come close to Google’s options. With Comcast in Provo, the high end package only gets you a little over 160 TV channels and just 25 Mbps internet speeds and still costs you $89 per month. While that does save you money, is that service really worth the price? Google is the hands down winner of services offered.
Once you have ordered services from Google, they schedule an install time to come over and set everything up for you, just like a traditional cable company would. Additionally, if you get the internet + TV package, you have a lot of other cool features with Google, such as, 1 TB of cloud storage with Google, a free Nexus 7 tablet that can be used as a controller, the TV box, storage box and network box. Everything you will need to get the most out of Google in your apartment. A true, full on Google Smart Home.
