Katie Runyon’s Moving Moments Horror Story
When moving into a new place, it’s always good to make sure that your old furniture can fit up the stairs. We had to cut my captains bed in half.
Katie Fogarty’s Moving Moments Horror Story
My fiancé and I moved last on 4/13/12. Coincidentally this was Friday the 13th. We aren’t superstitious people so we really didn’t think twice about the date.
The day started out normal, as we finished some last minute packing and cleaning.
Excited to get into our new home, I put the code into the lock box to get the key. Much to our dismay, the key didn’t work. Confused, we called our landlord and she realized she gave us the wrong key. We had to drive an hour to get the correct one.
For the second time, we were turning onto our new street to start the move but by this time it was dark out. My fiancé, Tyler was driving the moving truck in front of me. As I put my turn signal on and slowed down to turn into the driveway, I heard loud screaming saying “GO GO GO” then an immediate crash into my driver side back seat. It was a motorcycle that had hit me while I was halfway in the driveway! He flew off of his bike into the street!
Terrified and shaking, I call 911 and check to see if he is okay. By this time, Tyler and literally everyone that lived on the street had come out to see what had happened.
Thank God the man wasn’t badly injured; just a fractured ankle and some cuts and bruises.
Apparently, there was a woman tailgating behind him and he tried to go around me but he was looking back at her and didn’t see I was turning.
As we prepare to move into our new townhouse next month, we can only laugh about our last moving experience. At least we got to meet everyone on the street that night…
Becky Horn’s Moving Moments Horror Story
Ok the worst move I have ever had!!! I was moving about 40 miles away from my old place. The day I was scheduled to move it decided to snow, not a little but a LOT of snow. We moved out into the country so the roads were dirt and gravel. We take the HUGE U-Haul full of our 3-bedroom home stuff, and drive through the snow and sleet. So we get to our location, the driveway is dirt and has some ruts in it. Feeling secure about getting the U-Haul there and up the driveway, I was relieved. Apparently I was thinking too soon. Just as we pulled up, dark at this time of night, we have NO LIGHTS – the porch light is out, and we didn’t realize the living room did not have a light fixture. So now it’s dark and very cold and we cannot see anything. We get back in the U-Haul to move it closer to the door, and realize we are stuck in the mud and snow. So we got in, mind you with 5 kids there! We light the fireplace, and decide we are not going to be able to unpack the U-Haul in the dark, so we had to blindly dig in there to find our blankets. After an hour finally, we all laid in the living room with the fireplace to keep us warm, no lights on until the next morning. Whew! After unloading we got the U-Haul unstuck, just to get it stuck again further down the drive. I called and told them it was going to be late, and luckily they were very understanding and gave me the whole weekend free. Monday morning, the U-Haul went back to its location, unloaded and we finally got some light and heat in the house. It was a disaster!!!
