We all love to feel welcomed when we arrive at someone’s doorstep. Our own home is no exception, for our guest as well as for ourselves. I think the key to making a rental feel like home is to start with the first impression spot, the front door. This spot should make your guest feel welcomed while offering them a sense of your decorating style and personality. A personalized wreath is the perfect project for you to welcome your guest.
Take into consideration your interior decor when creating your wreath. You can showcase this when choosing the supplies for the wreath project. For example, the scrapbook paper for the initial letter can be fun, bright, preppy, or bold. Other embellishments like the ribbon and floral can also showcase your personality. Let your style guide you.
Supplies for this project:
Grapevine wreath (perfect for changing with the seasons)
Gold Spray paint
Initial Letter from craft store
1 sheet Scrapbook paper
Mod Podge
Floral (check craft stores as well as fabric stores for other embellishments)
Scissors
Fishing line or ribbon (for securing the the letter on to the wreath)
Start by painting your wreath gold and let it dry. Most spray paint dries in about 15 minutes now so this can be an easy one day update. You can certainly choose any color for your spray paint and when you do you will want to take the door color into consideration. For instance, if the door is black use a lighter and brighter color as I did here with the gold. On the other hand, if you have a white door go natural or choose a fun color.
To create the initial letter, lay your letter face down to trace out your paper shape. Then follow the instructions on the Mod Podge to glue it down. Layer an additional coat of Mod Podge over the top of the paper to seal it from weather. Then you can have fun with the ribbons and the floral to play up your wreath as much as you would like.
Whether preppy and girly is your style or natural and organic, showcase it. Welcome your guest in to your home with your style. Don’t let the idea that you are only a renter keep you from making your rental Home! Starting with the first impression spot will make you and your guest feel happy.
