It’s time for a trendspotting report from the High Point Market, the world’s largest home furnishings trade show.
Twice a year, furniture and home décor manufacturers exhibit their lines and showcase new furniture, rug, textile, pillow, and home accessory designs that will be hitting stores over the next year.
The show is open only to the trade, but I’m giving you a sneak peek at five of the hottest designer-inspired trends at Market.
No need to buy all new furniture for your space to stay on trend. You can try these looks in your apartment through paint, pillows, lighting, rugs and other accessories.
Inky blues and denim-inspired textures continue to be popular on walls, flooring, furniture, artwork and accessories.
The moody blue look is one that’s easy to DIY. Just open up a can of paint and give an old piece of furniture a makeover. Or go dark with your wall color (if your property manager allows it).
Tie dye a pillow in a shibori pattern — so hot at the moment!
Another color trend that was on fire at the High Point Market: bright orange!
Move over, neutrals, because bold pops of color are here to stay.
But you don’t have to invest in an orange sofa to embrace the look.
Go orange with accessories, like an orange lamp or vase. You can even use real oranges as an accent!
Or add some fun orange pillows to your furniture for an inexpensive update.
Metallics are another must-have for your apartment.
Stainless steel, brass, gold and bronze are all having a moment in design.
You can find amazing furniture, accessories and even textiles with some shimmer.
Just as brass has made a comeback, so has copper.
Designers at High Point Market used it for lighting, cool accent furniture and, of course, accessories.
To bring this look home inexpensively, just grab a can of spray paint.
If you shop yard sales and flea markets, you may find some bargain-priced vintage copper ware. Shine it up and you’re on trend.
The showroom designers at High Point Market really know how to accessorize by adding texture and natural materials.
Raw wood, agate, geodes, rope, oversized shells and coral are just a few of the ways they bring texture and an organic feel to the rooms they decorate.
If you look back over these photos, you’ll find many different ways to incorporate natural materials into your apartment décor, often using found objects or items you DIY.
