5 Front Door Ideas for Fall

Home Decor

It’s time to start thinking about how you are going to decorate your front door for the season. It’s also a great opportunity to switch things up and try something new. Whether you like to create your door decor yourself or purchase your decorations from the store, I have collected five of my favorite front door ideas to inspire your choices this year.

Happy Harvest

This is the most traditional and easiest way to decorate your porch for fall; think rustic farmhouse. Your local hardware store is just starting to sell mums, cornstalks, pumpkins and hay barrels in their garden section. Purchase two or three hay barrels to stack around your door, four or five pots of mums to put atop of the barrels and corn stalks to frame the front door. Finish the display with different size pumpkins and gourds. I also purchase a few mini pumpkins and gourds at my grocery store for both inside and outside my house. They look fantastic in an old wooden bucket, crate or barrel.

Friendly Welcome

Another fall decor idea I love is to welcome your house guests with a banner stretched across your door or porch. Burlap is the perfect fall texture to back your garland and a printable welcome sign is easy to make, affordable and can be discarded without much guilt if it gets ruined. It also allows you the freedom to interchange the banners a few times throughout fall. Make sure to tie the banner together with some thick twine for a great rustic touch.

Pumpkins Galore

This is one of my favorite ways to decorate for fall. You can never go wrong with loads and loads of pumpkins! I typically stack them on top of each other, creating towers beside my front door and use mini gourds to create a wreath. You can go with all orange pumpkins, or if you like to mix things up, decorate with orange, white and green pumpkins to create dimension and some extra flair.

Getting Personal

Get personal this fall with a customized wreaths, pumpkins or door hang. You can customize with your monogram, address or even a silhouette of the state you are living in. It provides a homey, personal touch, helping your house visitors know more about you.

Glamorous Gourds

My last fall front door idea is for those who enjoy a little bling. Spruce up your pumpkins and gourds with gold, black and silver spray paint. It provides major front door appeal and can easily be used for both fall and Halloween. You can take the glamour even farther by overlaying the paint with stripes, polka dots or the ever-popular chevron pattern. The metallic colors coordinate well with a black and gold feathered wreath or large twigs also painted in those colors.
