Vinyl is probably my favorite crafting supply. It’s incredibly versatile, it comes in tons of colors and patterns, it can be smooth or flocked or textured, and best of all, it’s removable, so it’s perfect for renters! Today I’m bringing you 7 ways to decorate your home with vinyl!
7 Ways To Decorate With Vinyl
You can use vinyl to decorate pretty much anything! It comes in every color, pattern, or texture you could ever want; they even make an “outdoor” version that can withstand weather changes! Just make sure that if you’re renting, you buy the removable kind so you can remove your decor before you move out!
If you need some inspiration, here are some great projects you can do with vinyl!
1. Decorate your front door
Your front door is the first thing that people see when they visit your home, so make an impression! I put a friendly little greeting on our front door to welcome visitors, and it turned out really cute!
If your front door number isn’t obvious, recreate it with vinyl! You can also make a wreath out of vinyl for your front door and switch it up seasonally. Or decorate your entire door with vinyl! Have you seen the front doors that are “wrapped” with gift wrap for the holidays? You can get the same look with stripes of vinyl!
2. Decorate your windows
Vinyl sticks to glass really well, so it’s perfect for decorating your windows! Silhouettes are a great way to decorate windows, especially if you have curtains that you keep shut. Cut fun shapes out of black vinyl to make silhouettes all your neighbors can see!
Or put a fun greeting in your window to greet people as they walk by!
3. Decorate your walls
One of my favorite ways to decorate with vinyl is to put it on my walls. There are tons of options for wall decorations using vinyl. You can add an inspirational quote somewhere where you’ll see it every day. You can make an “EAT” sign for your kitchen. You can make graphic wall decorations for a kid’s room or a nursery. How cute would vinyl dinosaurs be on the wall of a little boy’s nursery?!
As far as wall decorations go, if you can dream it, you can do it!
4. Decorate your furniture
Adding vinyl can help spruce up your furniture. You can add a small graphic or a few words to the top of a coffee table using vinyl, or if there’s a flat area on your headboard, add a vinyl saying or a vinyl heart. You can also turn a plain cabinet door into a totally functional command center by putting a piece of chalkboard vinyl over the outside! You could even decorate inside your cabinets with fun patterned vinyl!
5. Decorate your decor
If your decor is a bit plain, you can spice it up with vinyl! Add some embellishments to plain glass candle holders to make them more interesting, or put vinyl on a charger and use it as the centerpiece on your mantel. Add stripes to picture frames or polka dots to a boring flower pot. Vinyl sticks to pretty much everything, so the sky’s the limit!
6. Decorate for every holiday
Vinyl is perfect for holiday decorating because it comes in bright colors and is temporary! Last Halloween I put up black vinyl silhouettes in our window and ran a string of orange lights around the outer edges. This year I put up snowflakes.
Make a Christmas wreath for your front door, or cut out giant letters that spell HO HO HO to decorate for Christmas. Put up hearts on your windows or walls for Valentine’s Day, and replace them with shamrocks for St. Patrick’s Day. Add scurrying mice to your baseboards for Halloween, or put up a skeleton silhouette in your window.
You can even make holiday signs and decor with vinyl! Add words or sayings to a painted wooden board to make a holiday sign, or put vinyl on the glass of an empty picture frame to make holiday-themed art!
7. Decorate for parties or events
Vinyl is also perfect for parties or events because it is quick and easy to set up and remove once the party is over! If you’re hosting a graduation party, put up vinyl letters that say “Congrats!” and add a few graduation hats or diplomas. Or for your kid’s next birthday, sneak in at night and add “Happy Birthday!” vinyl letters on the inside of the door to their room so they wake up to a fun birthday greeting the next morning!
There are tons of ways to decorate with vinyl! What are your favorites?
