Decorating for the holiday season is a real treat. And if you’re like us, you’ll want to keep your budget in mind when you’re planning your decor. We’ve come up with a few ways to keep the holiday spirit alive and well in your apartment without breaking the bank.
Use Decorative Bows
Buy a few rolls of ribbon to get things started this holiday season. You can tie them around chairs at your dining room table, hang them from door knobs in the bedroom and bathroom, or tie them onto holiday wreaths! Colorful, sparkly, or patterned ribbons will add some budget-friendly pizzazz to your holiday decor.
Make Your Own Wreaths
Making your own wreath will typically cost you around $20, which is significantly less than you can buy them for. This way, your wreaths will be uniquely your own! To make it easy on yourself, buy a medium-sized artifical wreath, use the ribbon you recently purchased, and buy a few ball-shaped ornaments, red berries, or any sparkly additions.
Light Holiday Scented Candles
Holiday-themed candles won’t just fill your apartment with the aroma of Christmas. They stand as decor themselves! They’re the perfect way to add warmth and color to the chilly weather this holiday season. If you have pets and small children, try using a plug-in scent warmer instead. That way, you can keep it on a counter top or shelf away from your little loved ones.
Use Natural Elements for Table Decor
You can find very affordable plates, bowls, glasses, napkins and holders, and tablecloths at your local craft and home decor stores. For inexpensive centerpieces, consider using candles, a bowl of shiny ornaments, and natural elements, such as twigs, pinecones, and leftover Christmas tree limbs. To create a natural centerpiece, start with a floral foam brick, and place in a decorative container. Stick the tree branches into the foam and organize them the way you want. Then add a few pinecones, flowers, and bows to make this the perfect natural centerpiece.
Use Ornaments Around the House
If you have any spare ornaments that didn’t fit on the tree, use them in other locations throughout your apartment! You can fill your covered cake plate with them, place them as decoration in a ceramic bowl, use them on your wreaths, or place them into your greenery that’s wrapped around your staircase or mantel.
Make Edible Centerpieces
Fill glass jars full of Christmas candy (like green and red mints or candy canes). Tie a ribbon around the top, and place them in various places around the apartment. If you have leftover candy canes (that you haven’t already eaten), you can put them on your tree as edible ornaments, or use them as a stirrer in your holiday punch!
Recycle Your Christmas Cards
Use Christmas cards that you’ve been sent (this year and in years past), and place them on bookshelves and mantles to give your apartment a unique, personalized touch. You could also string them along the staircase banister or fireplace mantle. Guests will love seeing their Christmas cards up on display in your home, and it’s free of cost for you.
