Green Thanksgiving: How-to Make a Pumpkin Vase

Home Decor

If you’re like me and like do something unique and different for holidays, then this green Thanksgiving tablescape may be what you’re looking for! Moving away from the typical orange, brown, and red Thanksgiving decor is becoming more and more of a trend with tons of other colors stepping up to the plate. Greens and sage colors are a great combination, especially when accompanied by metallics. So to help inspire you in setting a glamorous table for guests in your apartment, I’m showing you how to make an incredibly easy pumpkin vase along with a tablescape design!

Items Needed:
-Faux/craft pumpkin (purchase from your local craft store)
-Acrylic or craft paint (I used a shamrock color and mixed with white)
-Paint brush
-Saw
-Flowers (dark leafy greens will work with any vase, but I used dusty plants to go along with the  green colors. This will work great with a dusty blue vase as well!)

Instructions:
-Cut the top of the pumpkin off with a saw. The larger of top you cut off the wider your vase is and more plants will be needed to fill it.

-Bring out your paint and paint brush. If you want lighter colors, mix your main color with white to soften and lighten it up. I mixed Shamrock green and white until I got my desired look. For the my second pumpkin I still aded white but barely.
-Paint your pumpkin and let fully dry. Then paint your pumpkin again for a second coat and let dry. Since it’s acrylic paint it dries pretty quickly. All together it took 5 hours but I also took my time.
Tutorial for pumpkin vase-Fill it with flowers. I like a more rustic/romantic look with my flowers. So I like to mix in various flowy-green and bud like flowers such as baby’s breath to give it a more whimsical look.

Now for the tablescape. I found this green modern turkey table runner which was the inspiration for my vase. It helps give the tablescape a more eclectic look since the rest is more parisian inspired.
I also added some brass candlesticks to really help create a romantic setting. Gold charger plates help tie the gold and brass color to the tablescape a bit more. Same with the gold rimmed glasses.
Green Thanksgiving ideaThe plates are also a seafoam/sage like green, which adds to the whole “green” Thanksgiving look.
I personally enjoy adding mother nature into tablescapes, so I used some of the plant leaves for the middle of each plate along with the name tag for placecard look. Unconventional placecards are popular now so have fun when creating yours! Use a flower, use fruit, have the names in calligraphy for a whimsical look!
DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece ideaI like an accompanying pumpkin for my centerpiece because it makes it more dramatic.
DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece and tablescape ideaThe centerpiece is what really makes the tablescape. It’s a beautiful focal point and with this pumpkin vase it really helps create that fall-like atmosphere. The flowers are easy to change out. In my case I used faux flowers as well. If you plan on using real ones. I’d suggest add a bowl of water into the pumpkin. The pumpkin is made of a foam-like material so don’t add water straight into it!
