Metallic hues and intricate, ornate design accents are hallmarks of fancy living spaces. But you can get that fancy feeling in your own apartment without dropping big bucks! You just have to get a little creative. Here are five cheap ways to make your living space look fancy:
Throw On a Throw: Large pieces of furniture like sofas or armchairs are often the focal point of your living space. If you’ve decided to go cheap on your big furniture (and we don’t blame you — those pieces can get really expensive!), class them up with a throw. Throw blankets add texture, color and luxeness at a fraction of the cost of an expensive sofa.
Accent With Thrift Store Treasures: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure — or the perfect fancy living room accessory. Scour your local thrift or vintage stores for trinkets that have a bit of bling for not a lot of money. For example, I found these glasses rimmed in gold at a thrift store, and they add a touch of sparkle and a vintage vibe to my living space. If I were to find something similar at a regular retail store, they’d cost three times as much!
Class Up Your Candles: Who doesn’t love a lovely scented candle? Even if you buy your candles from the Target bargain bin, you can fancify them with this easy DIY. Turn your candle upside down on a piece of newspaper and drip luxe metallic paint onto the candleholder until it is almost all the way covered in paint. By turning the candle upside down, you get neat-looking drips down the candleholder. And when you light your candle, it’ll give off the loveliest luxe glow thanks to the metallic paint.
Upgrade Old Mirrors: If you find a cool mirror with an interesting frame but in an ugly color, don’t pass it up! A little spray paint can take an old, hand-me-down or thrifted mirror and turn it into a piece that looks like it came straight from a trendy catalog. Sometimes ornate frames, like on my mirror above, can look a little old-fashioned, but updating the frame with matte spray paint strikes the perfect balance between oh-so-fancy and modern.
Bring Out the Bar Cart: Bar carts are all the rage in decorating today, and with good reason: they add a fancy, club-like feel to any living space. To make the most of your bar cart’s décor potential, make sure you prominently display your prettiest liquor bottles; some labels and bottles are downright gorgeous! If you own bar essentials anyway, this is a no-cost way to class up your living space … and always have a drink within arm’s reach.

As hinted at above, one of the most cost effective ways to fancify your apartment is by classing up your thrifted pieces.
