Unexpected Side Tables That Will Improve Your Space

Home Decor

Every room has furniture. Sometimes it’s easy to create a layout for your space, and then there are those times when it feels as though you just can’t quite get it right. I like to think outside the box and do things a little unexpectedly. Today I’m going to share with you a few of my favorite side tables that might just take you by surprise!

An Old Suitcase
Old suitcases are things we often inherit from our parents that just get stuck out in storage or even donated. But before you toss out another old suitcase, consider using it for your next side table. Beyond providing a surface next to your favorite chair and filling an awkward space, an old suitcase can also provide you with a little hidden storage. This is a great place to keep extra blankets for an overnight guest without taking up any of your storage space!

A Wooden Chair
Are you short on seating in your space? Do you often feel cramped on couches at your dinner parties? Consider using a wooden chair for your side table. It can serve as a great place to set your drinks, and when you have a few extra guests, you can pull it out for more seating. Sometimes even the most unexpected things can serve a great purpose in not just one but two ways!
Wicker Baskets
Wicker baskets with lids can be a great side table because you can hide all kinds of clutter in there. It’s a great place for DVDs, remotes, pet gear or even shoes, depending on the size of your wicker baskets. Stack a few on top of each other. You can even spray-paint them if you want to steer clear from the traditional wicker colors.

A Dresser
I’ve talked about using dressers in unexpected places before, but I would like to talk about it specifically as a side table. It doesn’t matter the shape as long as it fits in your space. I’ve used tall dressers, short dressers and basically everything in between. In our recent master bedroom refresh, I decided to use small IKEA dressers as nightstands. These are actually pretty small for a dresser, but they work perfectly for side tables in our bedroom.

Wooden Crates
Crates are just as good as wicker baskets because, like I mentioned, they double as great storage. Just glue a few together and you’ll be left with a sturdy side table that’s the perfect place to display your favorite reads. Here is a great example of how you can convert wooden crates into a side table.
