Finding inexpensive Parsons chairs was (surprisingly) easy, thanks to Young House Love.
Finding slipcovers was a bit more difficult.
Our criteria was:
- Cheap ($20 or Less) for Each Slipcover
- Natural or Neutral, to go with the Gray and Gold of Our Dining Room
- Machine Washable
I looked on Ballard Designs, Pottery Barn, and World Market. I even read the post on Young House Love about the linen slipcovers they purchased for their chairs. They shrunk their slipcovers in the wash, and then dyed them brown.
I thought I could do something similar for cheaper. When I was in Austin, Texas a few weeks ago visiting my friend Erin, I picked up eight linen slipcovers for $10 each at IKEA.
I got home, put them on the Parsons chairs, and they look rumpled and messy. The dimensions weren’t right, and they were too white. I attempted to shrink one and it still looked like garbage.
So, those slipcovers are going back to IKEA.
As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I knew we needed something stretchy. We found some “antique gold” slipcovers by SureFit on Target’s website for $14.99 a piece (with elasticity in them). Perfect color, right price.
Delivery was quick, and we were assured by how well each slipcover was packaged.
The best part (besides the cost savings) was the fact that it took us all of five minutes to put these on the chairs. They were a perfect fit!
