How to Get Rid of Bad Smells

DIY

No matter how clean you keep your house or apartment, you’re bound to come across a bad smell once in awhile. But you don’t have to live with it. ForRent.com is here to show you how to get rid of that nasty smell lingering from pets, mildew, and more.

If you don’t know exactly where the smell is coming from, clean throughout your home with a strong cleaning solution. With a rag, wipe down areas you would normally overlook: under sinks, behind appliances, and inside cupboards.
One of the best solutions is to air out your place. Open the windows and allow the outside air to move in. This can take as long as an hour to do, but really bad smells might need more time.
One simple solution involves vinegar. Just place a bowl of white vinegar in the smelly room, and leave it overnight. That may be enough to get rid of the stench.
Baking soda can be a powerful ingredient in removing smells. If you can tell the smell is coming from the carpet or piece of furniture, sprinkle it with baking soda and let it stay there for a few hours. The baking soda absorbs the odor over time. Once you’re ready, vacuum up the baking soda, and the smell should be gone.
Other smells may come from your disposal. This can happen if you put things like potato skins and onion peelings down there. To get rid of that smell, put ice down the disposal, sprinkle Borax in there, and turn the disposal on while running the water.
With a little patience, that bad smell should be no more.
