I use baskets for so many things around my home. They are perfect for both organization and décor. However, if you ever tire of the same old brown or white baskets, there is a simple solution to add a splash of color. Grab your baskets and give them a paint-dipped treatment in just minutes. Your baskets will never look better!
You can leave the basket itself a natural color. Just tape off a section with painter’s tape. I find that spray paint works best on wicker. Just be sure to use newspaper and tape to cover all exposed areas that you do not want painted. Then just give the exposed area of the basket a few coats of paint. The best technique for painting baskets is to spray-paint one coat in all four directions (top, bottom and both sides). This will ensure proper coverage. Allow your basket to dry and then remove the masking.
You can use this paint dip technique on baskets large and small. Choose colors that will match your room and get creative with your technique. For example, paint the top of some of the baskets instead of the bottom.
You can also paint a plain brown basket white before adding the colorful dip. The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Start by gathering the baskets in your home and deciding what colors you would like to use. One trip to the store for tape and paint, and you are ready to add a splash of color to your home with amazing paint-dipped baskets.
You can also go a little crazy and apply your paint dip line at an angle when you are masking. This will add some interest to your finished project. Don’t just look for plain brown and white baskets in your hunt, either. Grab those baskets that are already a bright color; a paint dip will make those look two-toned and spice up any room in your home.
No baskets around your home? Head to the thrift or secondhand store to give this project a try on a budget. Look at the images above for inspiration on finding your baskets and for ways to use them in your home. Your space will look amazing with a small splash of color from paint-dipped baskets.
