I’m obsessed with all things Scandinavian; I love the natural and minimal design. Everything is so light, airy and just plain amazing. I also love the holidays. The weeks leading up to Christmas are always so magical and filled with joy and wonderment. For this project, I wanted to combine two of my loves. (I have many loves and obsessions, by the way. It must be the artist in me.) So I decided to make a Scandinavian-inspired holiday wreath.
I really wanted to give the wreath a geometric feel, so I thought it’d be fun to enhance the angles of the stars by painting the lines white. To keep the Scandinavian spirit, I kept the stars their original kraft brown color.
This project is so simple and beautiful. I think you’ll love making it.
Supplies:
-12” embroidery hoop (You only need the inside hoop for this project.)
-Evergreen garland or branches (You can use a plastic one for reuse year after year or a fresh one for a beautiful aroma each time you walk into your apartment.)
-Floral wire
-Scissors
-White craft paint
-Thin paintbrush
-4 ½” paper mache star ornament (I bought this at Hobby Lobby and tried two options for the wreath: one with one star and a second with three stars.)
-White yarn
Step 1: Paint the edges of the paper mache star ornament white. Try your hardest to have a steady hand. What’s great about this is if you mess up, you can always use the backside of the ornament because only one side will be shown. Let it dry.
Step 2: Cut your evergreen garland or branch so it fits the bottom side of your embroidery hoop.
Step 3: Wrap the garland to the bottom of the embroidery hoop with your floral wire. Make sure to wrap both ends of the garland, the middle and any other part of it that may need to be attached.
Step 4: Use the floral wire to attach the star ornament string to the wreath. If you’re only using one star, attach it to the top of the wreath. If you’re using three stars, attach them to the bottom of the wreath.
Step 5: Tie a piece of yarn (its length depends on the position of your door) so it creates a loop.
Step 6: Wrap one end of the loop under the top of the wreath, then take the other end of the string and feed it through the loop and pull.
Step 7: Hang and enjoy.
