We are beginning to get into a rhythm with summer, finally!
For the most part, summer trips, camps and vacations have been planned. Everyone is talking about where they are headed off to and what they are planning on doing when they get there. And what all they have to do before they leave.
I personally love to travel. Like a kid at Christmas, I cannot wait to take off, get there and return back home with a ton of photos and great memories of my trip.
I have been wanting to keep track of all the excursions somehow, and since I have a slight obsession with maps, I knew I could somehow combine the two.
Materials:
A cork roll (found at most craft stores) that you can trace a map on and cut out
~or~
A pre-cut cork map that already has adhesive on it (found in craft stores and online)
Stickers of destinations
Small pushpins
Yarn
I decided to use the pre-cut map, and it couldn’t have been any easier to set it all up on the wall. It’s perfect for renters, as it comes off and doesn’t damage the wall.
Directions:
Make sure your wall is clean.
Set out all parts of the map and get an idea of where you want it placed.
It’s easier to start with the largest pieces and work your way to the smaller pieces of cork.
Peel off the back lining to the map. (If you cut it out by hand, apply tape to the back) Then set into place on your wall.
Repeat until finished with your map.
Next, add stickers and pushpins of the destinations you have been to, are planning on going to or keeping your fingers crossed for.
If you want to switch things up, add stickers of an activity you want to do or have done in a particular place.
Wrap and tie off your piece of yarn around a pin, making sure it is secure.
Proceed to wrap around each pin, looping around as you come to a new pin so that the yarn stays in place.
Add more pins and destination stickers or activities to your map as your travel plans grow!
You can also add in small pictures or Polaroids from your trip as a fun memory. In place of your destination stickers or activities, or just under your pushpins, throw in a small picture or small note — something that was a fond memory from your trip.
