Spring Into Gardening With Pretty Drip-Decorated Marble Pots

DIY

The first day of spring is almost here! Are you ready for it? After this cold winter, I know I am looking forward to green grass and blooming flowers. You can get a jump on spring gardening by starting your plants in pots on a sunny windowsill. Terracotta pots are just about the cheapest pots you can buy, but they are lacking a bit in the style department. With a few drips of craft paint, however, you can transform plain Jane pots into marbled works of art!
Marbled Pots pots and paint
To make pretty marbled pots, you just need terracotta pots from the hardware store and craft paint. When you are deciding on a color scheme, you can choose to go as colorful or as muted as you like with your paint choices. I chose four shades of teal blue for my pots. Blue always looks nice against the orangey-brown of terracotta.
Marbled Pots drip on paint
Set the pots upside down on a covered work surface. Begin by dripping one color of paint around the bottom (now top) edge of the pots. Do not worry about precision or perfection, just glob some of that paint right onto the pot.

Switch to another color of paint and drip it around the top edge the same way. Continue adding paint colors on top of each other along the top of the pot. Add as much or as little color as you would like to each pot.
Marbled Pots allow paint to drip
Leave the pots sitting upside down, and gravity will pull the paint down the sides of the pots, creating pretty waves and ripples. If you want to give the paint a bit of a head start, you can gently tap the pots on the work surface to get the paint flowing down more quickly. Allow the paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours before you handle the pots.

Peel the pots off of your work surface, and carefully pick off any drips that extend too far out from the edge of the pot. Fill the pots with soil and add in some seeds or a new plant. Line the marbled pots on a sunny windowsill, and make sure to give the plants a good drink. Before you know it, you will have a pretty potted garden all in bloom!
