Corks. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? Let me guess, WINE. {giggle} It’s shocking that you didn’t think of DIY projects. HA! Well, there are some pretty fabulous projects that you can tackle with corks. I’ve even seen kitchen back-splashes made of cork. With that being said, do you happen to have some corks sitting around the house — accumulating with no purpose whatsoever? Yep. Me too! The hubby and I throw all of our used corks into an oversized cognac glass that sits on top of our refrigerator. On special events, we’ll write the event and date on the cork too! So, we have quite a few collected to date. So I thought it might be fun to share thre DIY projects using corks today. They’re super easy and great when you need to pull something together last minute or when you want to upcycle some everyday corks into something fabulous. Ready? Here we go.
#1. Cork Centerpiece
Supplies: Corks, Glass Candle Holder, and Pillar Candle.
I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of glass cylinders to use with candles. So, how about filling the space between your candles and vase with corks? You’ll simply place your candle in your glass piece, then add your corks — filling 1/4-1/2 way up.
Pretty fabulous, right? Incredibly easy and makes a lovely decorative piece for a coffee table or a centerpiece!
#2. Cork Push Pins
Supplies: Corks, Thumb Tacks, Glue and Drill (optional).
How about taking those corks and transforming them into push pins? All you need is some corks, glue and thumb tacks. Attach the thumb tack to the cork with your glue, and voila! Want to add some extra cuteness to this DIY? Drill a small hole into the top so you can add a feather or dried flower! Awesome sauce.
I think these would make great gifts for co-workers who work in cubicles too. Right?
#3. Table Cards or Photograph Holder
Supplies: Corks and Glue Gun.
Glue six corks together using a glue gun.
Simply slide a table card, photograph or holiday greeting in place between the two rows of corks.
These have a rustic feel, are incredibly inexpensive and are extremely versatile! They’re great for labeling wine, cheese, and/or appetizers for a holiday party too!
Ta-da! Aren’t they great projects to keep in your back pocket? Of course these are only three of many, but the possibilities are endless! Do you have a favorite DIY cork project or idea? Be sure to let us know at ForRent.com!
