Morning routines are an important part of making sure you face the world looking glamorous. But that everyday routine can get a little cramped if you have to leave enough space in the bathroom for roommates or family, and it can get even worse if you rarely have very much time in the morning —whether that’s because you have an early-morning commitment or because you’re just not very good at waking up when your alarm goes off. Stock up on hair ties, bobby pins, and hairspray, because these hairstyles are quick, beautiful, and don’t require too many supplies taking up space in the cabinets.
A Gentle Twist
For this lightly modern hairstyle, take a one-inch section of hair just to the side of your face, near the top. Twist the section away from your face a couple times, then pull it back and bobby pin it in place. With this twist, you get a little bit of extra style with really minimal effort.
Mermaid Updo
For this chic hairstyle, gather up a bit of the top section of your hair, leaving out two long sections of hair to frame your face, and pull it up into a half-up half-down style, securing the updo with a hair tie. Pull the updo away from your head a little, then flip it into itself, threading the long section into the loose part between the hair tie and your head. Run your fingers through the rest of your hair, and you’re done! A bit of style to class up your look with just a little effort.
Braid Bun
This hairstyle is basically exactly what it sounds like, though there are a couple things you can do with it. If you’re really running short on time, pull all (or half!) of your hair back, put in a ponytail holder like you’re just doing a normal ponytail, then braid it all the way down, securing with a hair tie. Flip it up and twist it into a bun, tucking the plain section after the hair tie into the middle so it doesn’t show, then bobby pin it in.
If you have a couple extra minutes and you’d like a slightly classier look, put your hair into an updo first, pulling up sections of your hair around your face and securing it with an elastic, then only braid the updo! Put it into a bun and secure with bobby pins just like the other style. This look has all the easy simplicity of a bun with a little fancy twist.
Glamorous Halo
For a slightly different interpretation of the classic updo, try adding a little “twist.” Grab the usual sections of hair for an updo, but twist them in on themselves before securing with a hair tie. For a little bit of a fancier look, try doing one side, bobby pinning it, then doing the other side, crossing it over the first side, and bobby pinning it as well. It’s just a little extra effort, and really elevates the updo.
Braided Top Knot
With this lazy hair hack, you can ensure you’re maintaining the classic look without too much effort. Pull your hair into a high ponytail, then separate a small strand off the underside of the ponytail for the braid. Create a bun with the rest of the hair, wrapping it around your ponytail holder and pinning it to stay in place, then braid the section you left out. Wrap the braid around the base of the bun, where your ponytail holder is, and pin it in place underneath the bun.
If you know what you’re doing, it’s actually pretty easy to fool your way into a hairstyle that looks fashionable without doing twenty minutes of hard work. Surprisingly, it’s actually not that difficult to pull off a pretty hairstyle in five minutes while only using one drawer’s worth of hair supplies. That’s great if you don’t have your own bathroom and you have to share your style space with someone else, but it can definitely get draining after a while.
