Although an apartment patio or balcony may have less room than desired, there are still plenty of possibilities to decorate it, especially for entertaining your guests. My apartment is especially small and one great quality it has is a small patio; it’s the perfect size for me. Whether you have a group of friends coming over or you are planning on entertaining just a few people, repurposing what you have is the most inexpensive way to dress up a patio space for entertaining.
Folding chairs like the ones above are great for small spaces. They can be taken out when necessary and folded away when you want more room on your patio or balcony. I found mine at a flea market for $20.00 total for three chairs. The table is a simple four-legged table from a thrift store, which cost only $5.00. The table is small enough to be used as a side table indoors or taken onto the balcony or patio when it’s time to entertain guests.
A colorful tablecloth is an easy way to dress up any table, and it looks festive when the table is outdoors. My favorite way to dress up an outdoor space is with plants, especially potted plants – they are the perfect decor for summer, in general. If you have plants indoors, whether they are large or small, bring them outdoors for pops of color (from the pots) and a fresh appeal.
If you want to add a unique touch to a tablescape, use fruit as name tags, where you write on the fruit itself or add “leaf tags” to them.

For summer, fruits are a perfect food for entertaining. Use cones to hold different fruit, creating an instant fruit salad, easy for guests to hold. Any finger foods are ideal for small space entertaining, since your guests wouldn’t be using many plates. Watermelon is especially liked during summer, making it a treat in itself, but sprucing it up can turn it into a dish. Add some feta cheese to watermelon and basil on a toothpick and you have small watermelon finger salad. You can use the same watermelon for different foods that you serve, saving you money while serving foods that are delicious.
