As a Dallas native, it boggles my mind when I hear people say that there’s “nothing to do in Dallas”. That is completely false! If you keep your eyes and ears open, you can find plenty of interesting events to attend on the weekends that are perfect whether you’re exploring solo, with a significant other, friends, or as a family with kids. Aside from special events that come and go from weekend-to-weekend, here are some options that you can catch every weekend in the greater Dallas area.
Find a Food Festival
There are often food festivals in Dallas and for an inexpensive admissions price, you’ll have access to some of the best vendors in the metroplex. Taste of Dallas is a popular family-friendly option that will leave you stuffed and ready for a long nap. For very low prices or sometimes for free, you’re able to sample the tastiest sweet and savory dishes. Some of my favorites from last year were the pineapple piña colada and all of the brisket —because it’s not a Texas food festival without good BBQ!

Go to Klyde Warren Park
This park is nestled in between Downtown Dallas and Uptown just above Woodall Rodgers freeway. But Klyde Warren Park isn’t just any old regular park. On weekends, Dallasites can join dance sessions, meditate with an hour of yoga, or grab a spot on the lawn and enjoy the sounds of local musicians and DJs on the luscious, grassy lawn.

Food Truck Hop
You won’t need to walk far from Klyde Warren Park to find the food trucks of Dallas! New trucks are lined up alongside the park daily with specialty menus listed with delicious options — you will be eager to try them all! Order anything from a cool drink to a full lunch to tasty sweet treats. There is something for everyone’s palate.

Cool Off in the Museums and Shopping Centers
Temperatures in Texas are usually blazing during the summer and I’ve found that one of the best places to cool off in between outdoor activities downtown is in the Dallas Museum of Art, and other museums. The DMA is free, friendly for all ages, and super air conditioned when it’s hot outside. Cool off, or take cover when it rains, and enjoy the inspirational art pieces from talented artists around the world.

NorthPark Center is another great place to cool off with occasional weekend activities hosted by various department stores and the mall.

The Farmer’s Market (and Other Pop-Ups)
By now, you’ve probably learned that Dallas has a lot of food options, but Farmer’s Markets and pop-ups do not only consist of food. Many of the coolest weekend pop-up markets have everything from fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan foods, flowers and plants, and other unique handcrafted goods. I’ve found some amazing items by shopping at markets and if you want to support small Dallas businesses, this is an excellent way to do it! The Dallas Farmer’s Market, Crescent Court Farmers Market and The Boho Market are popular markets with regular pop-up dates and hours, but Eventbrite and Instagram are great ways to find out about new markets.
