The season of gift giving and receiving is finally here. That means it’s time for fashionable wrapping paper, curly bows and colorful tags. I’ve never really been a pro gift wrapper, but I’ve always been able to get the job done and make it look pretty neat. If you’re not crafty with ordinary wrapping paper, here are some suggestions to impress your friends, family and coworkers.
Wrap gifts using newspaper. It is unique, and when you tie it with a colorful ribbon, it really stands out. Just a reminder, everyone loves the comics section.
If you’re wrapping a bottle of wine or something that could be used in the kitchen (e.g. cookbooks, utensils, decorative items, etc.), use fabric like a dish towel that matches your recipient’s decor. To keep your gift from unveiling too soon, tie it together with a ribbon.
Decorating shoe boxes is an easy way to wrap gifts where no folding technique or tape is required. Try painting boxes plain colors and wrapping with a colored or patterned ribbon. If you don’t have any shoe boxes, craft stores usually have plain ones. With the plain or painted ones, you can glue on different items and stamp pictures on them. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can let your kids decorate them for an extra personalized touch.
Other wrapping options include using classic brown paper and twine. This is one of my favorite things, pun intended. If you think this may be too plain and decorating the paper is not an option, you can use different colored twine by dyeing it yourself.
