The holidays are a time of travel and celebration with loved ones, so there’s a chance you may be having houseguests staying at your place in the next months. Look around you right now. Is your home ready for visitors? If not, don’t worry! We can have your place ready for houseguests before you know it. This handy checklist will guide you through the process.
- Have a spare key made: It’s a safe bet that you won’t be with your guests every second of their visit, so make sure you have a spare key made so they can let themselves in and out as needed.
- Clean your home thoroughly: Of course, the room where your guests will be sleeping should get the most attention, but consider this to be great motivation to do the all-over clean you’ve been putting off all fall.
- Put clean bedding on the guest bed: Whether you have a guest room, air mattress, or a futon, you can make the bed feel cozy and inviting with fresh, clean linens.
- Deep clean the bathroom: I know I already told you to clean your whole home, but you will want to give your bathroom a deep cleaning. And make sure you are fully stocked on toilet paper!
- Gather extra pillows: Don’t count on your guests bringing their own pillows. Pull out your spares or pick some up at the store.
- Provide extra blankets: Some people like to sleep with piles of blankets on the bed. Make sure your guests have the option of bundling up at night.
- Make room in a closet: Your guests will be so appreciative of a little closet space to stash their hanging clothes.
- Lay out a spare towel: Don’t make your guests hunt around the bathroom for a towel after their shower. Lay a towel and washcloth out on the guest bed before they even arrive.
- Buy extra toiletries: Pick up some travel size toiletries in case your guests forget to pack their own.
- Stock up on snacks and drinks: A gracious host will have plenty of food and beverages on hand for her houseguests.
- Display your wifi password: This can be as simple as writing the password down on a piece of notepaper and leaving it by the guest bed.
- Set up a charging station: Plug a power strip in near the guest bed so your visitors can charge up all their devices each night.
- Childproof or pet proof: If your guests are bringing children or fur babies along with them, make sure anything breakable or hazardous is out of harm’s way.
- Adjust the thermostat: Your Southern guests will appreciate you boosting up the heat in your Northern apartment (and vice versa). Put your guests’ comfort ahead of your utility bills.
- Enjoy your visitors! Kick back, relax, and enjoy your company.
