We all know jello shots are the hit of any party, but what if you want to kick it up a notch? These champagne jello shots will make you feel classy and glamorous right in your apartment, while keeping the party going. And, as a bonus, they are super easy to make and way less expensive than buying enough champagne for all of your guests to have a glass.
Working with Gelatin
You will need to work with unflavored gelatin to make these jello shots, unless you are okay with adding fruity jello flavor to your final shot. If you have never worked with gelatin before, be prepared for the smell. It’s pretty awful. Thankfully, that smell doesn’t translate to the finished jello shots, so you don’t have to worry about holding your nose while you down one.
Choosing the Wine
I feel like this is pretty self-explanatory, but just in case: these jello shots taste like champagne. Champagne is not a sweet beverage, so if you are the expecting sugary sweet taste of regular jello shots, you might be disappointed.
Because real champagne tends to be pretty dry I suggest using a sweeter sparkling wine, like Moscato Spumante, for these jello shots. This sweeter wine, plus the addition of sparkling lemonade, results in really delicious shots that everyone will love.
Serving the Shots
You have a few options when it comes to how to serve the jello shots. The lidded plastic containers that are standard for jello shots will work, but you can do better. Actual shot glasses, whether glass or plastic, make a much classier presentation. If you want to turn these jello shots into more a fancy dessert, pour the jello mixture into coupe glasses and serve it with a spoon.
Just before serving, top the shots with some white sanding sugar and edible gold stars. You should be able to find both of these in the cake decorating aisle of your local craft store. Be sure to wait until the last minute to add the decorations, however, or they will start to melt with the moisture of the jello.
