How to Make the Perfect Gravy in Under 10 Minutes

Food and Entertaining

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, there are many hours spent standing at the stove. You might be practicing a new recipe, making your family’s favorite dishes or experimenting with a new idea you’ve had. Some recipes come together quickly, while others take hours. Today I am going to share with you five tips on how to make the perfect gravy in under 10 minutes.

This is a great recipe if you are craving a homemade style recipe, but maybe you don’t exactly have time to roast an entire turkey. This recipe will have gravy in less than 10 minutes from start to finish! I’ll list some of the tips I have first, and then at the bottom you can find the full recipe.
Tips for the Perfect Gravy:
Make from Scratch
I like to make my gravy from the original ingredients, rather than a prepackaged gravy mix. I love the consistency and flavor this brings in. First, you will start off by melting your butter and then whisking in your flour. This takes us to my second tip.

Use a Whisk
Your flour and butter mixture will be thick, and when you are working with a thick consistency of flour you will want to use a whisk. This helps break up clumps of flour that might be sticking together. When you use a spoon, it just sort of pushes those clumps around and doesn’t break it up very well. This will leave you with a nice smooth consistency for your gravy.
Deglaze the Pan
If you pour all of the chicken broth into your mixture at the same time, it will reduce the heat of the pan too quickly. However, if you pour in just a little at first and allow it to remove any of the flour residues from the pan before adding the remaining broth, it will give you a much better flavor.
Use Chicken Broth and Beef Bouillon
When you are making quick gravy like this and aren’t using the drippings from a roasted turkey, you tend to lose a little bit of that meaty flavor, so I like to add in a little beef bouillon. This also helps boost up the flavor of the gravy.
Choosing the Right Pan

You always want to make sure you are using the right type of pan. You will want to use a saucepan for this recipe. Using any kind of larger pan or skillet increases the surface area of the gravy and doesn’t allow you to whisk it properly. I personally like to use stainless steel, but you do have to be more aware of the heat when using it since food is more likely to stick to it and burn. However, I do think it produces a better result. You just might need a little practice ; ) You certainly wouldn’t be the first one to google “how to remove burnt food from stainless steel”! Let’s dive into the recipe.
