Celebrate National Popcorn Day!

Food and Entertaining

If any snack food deserves its own celebration, it’s popcorn!

Popcorn is tasty, nutritious and easy to make. You can cook it anywhere — on the stovetop, in a campfire, in an air popper and, of course, in the microwave! It’s delicious served savory or sweet!
In honor of National Popcorn Day, which is celebrated every January 19, why not pop up a batch and watch your favorite movie? (Everyone knows movies are better with popcorn!)

Or better yet, invite some friends and neighbors over to your apartment for a popcorn party.
Just be sure to offer a selection of sweet and savory gourmet toppings, salt blends, spices and cheese. And lots of melted butter!
Popcorn Day Seasonings
For your popcorn party, you can pop your own — if you have time, I recommend popping your corn in oil on the stovetop — but microwave and air-popped corn is also good. You can also serve prepackaged popcorn since there are so many varieties available these days at grocery stores, big box stores and gourmet shops!
Popcorn Day Chicago Mix
One gourmet variety to try is Chicago Mix popcorn, a blend of cheddar cheese and caramel corn. At first, it may seem a weird combination, but it is delicious. My favorite flavor changes from one bite to the next!
If you want to expand your popcorn palate, even more, consider venturing beyond the typical toppings of butter and salt.

No one is quite sure of the origins of Popcorn Day, but there’s a theory that the foodie holiday was first created to coincide with the big game.
Popcorn is certainly a great snack to have on hand for a football-watching party! If you’re planning on having people over to watch the big game, be sure to check out these football party ideas on the ForRent.com blog. I especially love those cleverly decorated mason jars filled with popcorn!
