Renter-Friendly New Year's Eve DIY Tablescape

Food and Entertaining

Cheers to a New Year and a decked out holiday party just perfect for your apartment. Creating a special ambiance, that is stunning and easily disposable not only cuts time cleaning but also reduces time preparing. There aren’t any hardcore rules when it comes to New Year’s décor besides making sure the bubbly is iced and mouths are happy, and we are confident you have that covered. Tinsel and fringe is the right way to go for your event not only because of the glamorous edge it offers in images but also because it is super fun to put up and quick to take down. When preparing for your 2018 New Year’s party, it is safe to say that you would rather spend time with family and friends rather than time sweating the small details of the party. So when it comes to giving your guest the best on the last day of the year, we have you covered with our very own DIY Disposable Tablescape and Backdrop.
With this do-it-yourself tablescape, it takes the guesswork out of planning and prepping (especially if it’s last minute) and puts time back into your night. We added our signature touch of blue to go with the popular New Year’s colors of white, black and gold and silver. Here are the items you will need for your DIY Tablescape:

DIY Glitter Cups

It was reasonably easy to do the DIY Cups. Instead of doing an ombre effect we just went with patches of gold here and patches of blue there. When holding the plastic cup, be sure the spray nozzle is pointing in the area you want the glue and glitter to be. Spray slowly and concisely, being sure to cover the lower half of the cup completely. We did an up and down spray technique to ensure there was more glue at the bottom and a thin layer at the top. Next, Use the glitter of your liking to cover the adhesive. It should stick quickly. We just took a handful of glitter and slowly settled the glitter onto the glue. Cover the cup in any way you choose. The cups will come out beautiful either way. Place a stick of rock candy in the cup and pass them around to your guest. Just be sure not to leave their cups empty when the countdown begins!
For added pizzazz, we used two different styles of jewels. You can see that in the center plate, there are gold mini gems scattered just to add a touch of sparkle. Outside of the center plate, we placed a few larger gems throughout the table.

The Gold Flaked Vanilla Cupcakes were the perfect addition to our tablescape. Simple and oh so tasty!
As you see here, we used the Midnight Party New Year’s Party Kit from Party City to add to our tablescape décor. We took the “Happy New Year” tiaras and used that as a plate piece for our deco. Place whichever piece you would like as the center plate piece. Here are a few more images to help you prepare for your tablescape!

DIY Fringe Backdrop

Check out the way we put up our 2018 DIY backdrop and added a few nick nacks to make it pop.
First, we used two packs of gold fringe and one pack of silver fringe to give an added effect to the center of the backdrop. When putting up the fringe be sure to have some extra tape to secure the top layer. The top of the fringe already comes with a single line of adhesive, but we added more tape just to be sure that it stayed secure. Once the gold fringe is on the wall, place the silver fringe in the middle of the gold fringe. Be sure to smooth out any wrinkles and place the fringe as flat as you can to the wall.
List of all items used:
–          (2)Gold Fringe from Amazon
–          (1) Silver Fringe from Amazon
–          (2) 36” Latex Balloons from Amazon
–          White Ribbon – had in office
–          Gold Ribbon – had in office
–          Happy New Years Sign from Amazon
We added a New Years sign to drape over the top of the fringe and two white 36” latex balloons. For the balloons, we added in 8-10 strands of white ribbon and one strand of gold foil ribbon. Adding the strands of ribbon gave the huge 36” balloon string more volume. The balloons make fantastic props, but in some photos, you can leave them out if desired.
