Every restaurant that is any restaurant has their version of a burger. That can be a classic burger with your basic patty, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and the like, or a more featured burger that acts as a shameless culmination meant to make some taste bud magic in your mouth. The burger is easy to make but difficult to master, which is why foodies spend a significant amount of their time looking for the best spots to indulge in a truly great burger. Atlanta is a great place to be a part of, and the food scene here offers a barrage of incredible burgers. To help you narrow down where to go for the best burgers in the city, we over here at ForRent.com have created a list of the top 5 best Atlanta burger joints. Read on to dive in!
Old Fourth Ward | H&F Burger
H&F Burger is a counter serve establishment that sells a signature double stack burger, regular burgers, and hot dogs. Although the burger joint has three locations in the city, my preferred location is in the popular Food Hall in Atlanta’s Ponce City Market. Go there on the weekends and you might find yourself in quite the line, but I assure you that it is well worth the wait. Although their burgers are delicious, I always gravitate towards the featured burger of the month because it has bells and whistles that their cheeseburger and their mighty Jr. burger don’t have, and at just a couple of bucks more. I recently fell in love with their December Featured Burger that consisted of two of their house blend beef patties, topped with aged Vermont white cheddar, Benton’s country ham, black pepper crusted egg, and served with a hellfire sauce on the side. Their in-house homemade ketchup creates a tangy sweet layer to the already insanely delicious burger.

Virginia Highlands | Illegal Food
Va-Hi is the spot for amazing burgers in Atlanta. Illegal Food started as a pop-up shop in the back of Joystick on Edgewood Ave, but has since relocated to the beautiful, and wonderfully eccentric, Virginia Highlands and it couldn’t have found a better home to host its own quirkiness. It’s a casual burger eatery that specializes in creative burgers like The Nasty Nate which packs a punch with its flavorful combination of bacon bourbon jam and raw milk blue cheese, and of course, their most renowned burger, The Hank. The Hank is something that everyone who comes to Atlanta needs to try at least once. It’s a whole lotta burger, a double patty that is 15 oz of beef in total, but it’s simple profile of crisp iceberg lettuce and American cheese is a classic that deserves to be eaten again and again. Their PBR buffalo hot wings with buttermilk aioli are a real crowd pleaser too.

Midtown | YEAH! BURGER
YEAH! BURGER, with an exclamation point, is easily one of my favorite places to grab a burger in Atlanta. Easily. Its message of “keepin’ it real” can be felt throughout the establishment, from its décor down to its choice in ingredients. The Atlanta burger joint is all about that organic, grass-fed, gluten-free life and their food boasts of its fresh choices, which also includes keepin’ it local with their decisions to use Georgia-grown produce. The burgers are fresh and cooked to order. I keep it simple there and prefer to build my own burger: grass-fed beef burger on artisan white, American cheese, tomato, arugula, and bacon jam. That bacon jam is the perfect finish to any burger masterpiece. I highly recommend it.

Downtown | Grindhouse Killer Burgers
Sweet Auburn Curb Market houses one of several of the local chain Grindhouse Killer Burgers. I love their shakes, I love the hip atmosphere, I love the chili, and of course, I love their burgers. This place is a fixture in the ever-growing Atlanta burger scene and rightfully so. Their burgers are everything you could ask for, flavorful, edgy, and dare I say, killer? Because I am obsessed with the taste of bacon, I bounce between their Cowboy Style burger and their Yankee Style burger. Truthfully, I am more partial to the Yankee because the blue cheese packs more of a punch and the smokiness from the bacon is an incredible combination that can’t be denied. And ringing true to its theme, Grindhouse Killer Burgers even shows B-movies projected onto the wall while you eat and drink their maddeningly thick and addictive milkshakes.

Buckhead | Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar
Located outside of Lenox Mall, Zinburger Wine & Burger Bar offers you all you could ask for from a burger joint – gourmet burgers, crisp draft beers, and, oh yeah, a great wine selection to complement your choice of beef or kobe beef. It is a very modern and vibrant place, which matches the energy that can be felt in the creativity of some of the burgers the place serves. Their Raspberry Brie Bacon burger is an angus beef patty topped with brie and house-made raspberry jam. Their signature Zinburger is topped with Manchego cheese and Zinfandel braised onions. My favorite is undoubtedly their Breakfast Burger though. Consisting of angus beef, a fried egg, Applewood smoked bacon, and avocado – it’s the burger of your stomach’s dreams. Don’t forget to pair the burger with a glass of the Sebastiani Merlot. After all, it is the ultimate place to wine and dine.
