One of the true perks of living in a dynamic city like Phoenix? The sheer number of coffee shops that call this city home. Although Phoenix might not be known for its coffee scene (a la coffee havens like Portland or Seattle), that doesn’t mean there isn’t a vibrant java scene.
Check out these five spots for some of the top java in the entire Valley of the Sun.
Lux Central
Midtown Phoenix’s hippest day-to-night spot? Lux Central. Spot everyone from remote workers to teens from the nearby Central High School grabbing a cup of ‘jo at this thriving haunt. The coffee and atmosphere are both top-notch, but you really can’t go wrong with anything at this place. Two menu standouts include the made hot mac ‘n cheese and ultra-decadent chocolate espresso Bundt cake. At night, it transforms into a dimly-lit bar with a killer selection of libations.

32 Shea
This blink-and-you’ll-miss-it spot just off the 51 slings coffee from one of the Valley’s hidden gems. On one of Phoenix’s scorching triple digit summer days, swing by the drive thru at 32 Shea, or head inside to cozy up with someone in this spot’s small, yet intimate interior space. When the temperatures cool, the back patio is another small place where you can spend time outdoors.

Peixoto Coffee Roasters
Downtown Chandler’s Piexoto (pronounced “pie-show-toe”) is known for serving some of the top coffee in the entire Valley of the Sun. The owners are third generation coffee farmers and import all of their coffee beans from Brazil. Chill on the plush chairs in the industrial, yet warm setting (complete with a brick wall) as you enjoy bustling downtown Chandler. Pro tip: during the winter months, Piexoto serves some of the best hot chocolate in the area.

Futuro
Downtown Phoenix is teeming with great coffee shops, but perhaps the coolest of the bunch is Futuro. Housed in the futuristic all-white art gallery/hair salon Palabras, this spot has a lot to offer all the senses. Order your coffee from Vancouver, British Columbia’s 49th Parallel at the gleaming bar and then peruse the selection of art hanging on the walls while the baristas whip it up.

Sip Coffee & Beer Garage
With one location in Phoenix and another in Scottsdale, Sip Coffee & Beer Garage is another top day-to-night spot in town. The atmosphere here? Hip and young crowd. Order a premium coffee drink from local roaster Cartel Coffee Lab and then open your laptop to get to work. At night, order a beer from the beer. The Phoenix location on Indian School Road is also known for its underground tiki bar, UnderTow.
