Where To Find The Best Chicken And Waffles In Atlanta

Food and Entertaining

Chicken and waffles are a Southern cuisine staple on par with Southern soul food favorites like shrimp and grits, and macaroni and cheese. As a city in the south with a thriving food scene, Atlanta is the home of quite a few places that allow you to get your traditional southern comfort food fix. And whether you prefer to eat your waffle with a juicy chicken tender or an entire crunchy wing, we’ll narrow down the choices of where to find the best and most delicious chicken and waffles in this city.
Read on for five of the best chicken and waffles spots in Atlanta:

BQE Lounge
Not too far from Edgewood Ave’s favorite fresh market, Sweet Auburn, is The BQE Lounge. The hidden gem is intimate and a weekend favorite to many. Soak in the sounds of old school R&B as you take a heavenly bite into the restaurant’s signature fried chicken and red velvet waffles. What I love is that the waffles are dusted with powdered sugar and topped with cream cheese icing. Drizzle some syrup on top and add some chicken, and you have the perfect savory sweet bite.

Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles
Despite some in-house drama earlier for the restaurant chain this summer, Gladys Knight’s Chicken & Waffles is arguably one of the most important southern food eateries available to Atlanta natives and tourists alike. The chicken and waffles menu item there is appropriately named The Midnight Train and offers four jumbo-sized southern fried chicken wings and one Original waffle.

South City Kitchen
South City Kitchen recently opened a new Buckhead location to add to their restaurants around Atlanta. South City Kitchen can be a little pricier compared to the aforementioned restaurants, but the extra bang is worth the extra bucks in my honest opinion. Find their rendition of chicken and waffles underneath the Southern Specialties header under the brunch menu. The Springer Mountain Farms Fried Chicken and Malted Buttermilk Waffle is easily the most elevated version of chicken and waffles that I’ve tried and the easiest to eat together. Pour the pure Vermont maple syrup on top and slice through with your knife. Prepare to have the chicken and waffle bite of your life.

Bantam + Biddy
Bantam + Biddy is a diner concept restaurant that offers southern comfort food in a fast, casual dining experience. They offer two options for your chicken and waffles desires: a banana bread waffle and a fried chicken and cheddar waffle. My preference is the Fried Chicken and Cheddar Waffle with their honey butter and maple syrup. If you’re feeling fancy, make your cheddar waffle a Bacon Cheddar Waffle. The smokiness of the bacon adds a new layer to the chicken and waffle taste meter.

J&J Bourbon Bar
Although this spot is known more for its abundance bourbon types and varieties (they house and serve over 100 different brands!), their brunch gives their drinks a run for their money. Although I love their soft buttery waffle and delicious combo of chicken tenders with syrup on top, their special red velvet waffle with bourbon butter on top is worthy of some foodie love too.
