With so many businesses and hidden gems around New York, choosing a good place to have fun can be an overwhelming experience. There are the nightclubs, the niche-y restaurants, the little holes in the wall where everybody knows your name —but what about something a little more classy?
If you want to check out the jazz scene, find a new club to call home, or just get the most out of your NY vacation, then here are the absolute best ones to check out in the Big Apple.
Smalls Jazz Club
As the name suggests, Smalls is a tiny, intimate, basement-like establishment that provides an authentic sound for $20 dollars. Sure, it is a bit pricey, but it is well worth it for a night of good jazz from talented musicians and feel-good drinks. Make sure to arrive early, the place can get packed with people who want to tune in on some fun jams.

Smoke Jazz and Supper Club
Smoke Jazz and Supper Club is an even smaller space than the previous club on the list, but it is just as good. The food is superb and definitely the best thing about the place. Because space is so compact, the band is right next to you, so you might want to request to be put in one of the back tables. Smoke is best for people with larger groups who are fine with the loud environment and mostly want to enjoy the music, food, and drinks.

With a varied menu and impressive champagnes, Jazz Standard is a club you won’t want to miss out on.

Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola
A more mellow club, Dizzy’s is a great place for dates and relaxing nights. The bands truly bring out the traditional blues vibes you would expect from an 80’s bar, added with the classy decor and comfort only a modern establishment can provide, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola is the place to be for those who like romantic settings.
Bill’s Place
This space will be remembered fondly by those who enjoy jazz music above all else. Bill’s Place is no bigger than a long, narrow living room. This BYOB (bring your own beverage) club fits no more than 25 people, but don’t let the scale fool you: this venue is a beloved spot amongst true jazz fans. Thanks to the close quarters, you will brush shoulders against anyone sitting near you, and you will start a conversation with everyone there guaranteed. Bill’s place is fantastic for anyone looking to make new friends without needing to be intimidated by large, crowded spaces filled to the brim with strangers.
The Kitano
Located in the Kitano Hotel, The Kitano is a lively jazz club fused with Asian culture featuring the one and only Tony Middleton! Seriously, it’s worth going just to see this guy in action. The music ranges from modern to classic in the well-organized setlist made to make you rant and rave days after visiting. Though the food is rather simple, the drinks are pleasant and you can enjoy a quiet conversation as the music becomes an afterthought. Great for romantic dates and for people who enjoy more sophisticated venues.

Minton’s
This Asian-African inspired club has one of the best food and wine selections New York has to offer. Those that enjoy dishes with Creole flavors will be delighted to see all the delicious cuisine Minton’s has to offer. It’s a small space, so it is best to make a reservation beforehand so you can get some good seats. You’ll be sure to leave with a smile on your face after trying their infamous chicken liver.

Paris Blues
The diversity is strong with this one. Many people might feel intimidated by going to jazz clubs because of elitist attitudes, but such is not the case with Paris Blues! At this club, people of all ethnicities, backgrounds, and attitudes get together to share their love of jazz music. A great place for people going to jazz clubs for the first time, the friendly and welcoming atmosphere will make you feel like a regular as you jam along with all the unrecognized talent this club has to offer.
