Ward’s House of Prime
540 E. Mason St.
Milwaukee, WI 53202
(414) 223-0135
At Ward’s House of Prime, size does matter! Ward’s has been featured in a number of publications, most notably on the Travel Channel’s Food Paradise. Why, you might ask? Well, Ward’s signature prime rib dish is served at 40 ounces! Although that’s a large steak, the end all, be all is a 168-ounce prime rib called the Awesome Fat: The Michael Litman Experience for a small price of $250! The average mortal could probably down Ward’s 24-ounce prime rib for $46. But I guess the whole point of visiting a steakhouse with that big of a steak is to try your hand at taking it down. Ward’s is located near the Milwaukee Art Museum, Pabst Theater and the Yankee Hill Apartments. If you find yourself in the area and feel like a challenge, visit Ward’s and see if you can stake a claim to the title.
BRAND Steakhouse
3770 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 730-6700
BRAND Steakhouse is located in Las Vegas in the Monte Carlo. BRAND’s whole model is based around the idea that being serious meat eaters does not mean we have to be uncivilized. This message is very clear through the traditional upscale steakhouse décor of the restaurant. It is also backed up in the meat department by a 120-ounce porterhouse steak for six for a cool $300. BRAND has also been featured on the Food Network’s Outrageous Foods. If you find yourself cleaning house on the tables, you may just want to press your luck at BRAND with the big dogs; oh, and don’t forget a side of smoked Gouda baked mac and cheese the way “Gramma” makes it.
Gregory’s Steakhouse
2201 Schoenersville Road
Allentown, PA 18109
(610) 264-9301
Gregory’s is located in Allentown, Pennsylvania, amidst the Lehigh Valley. This is a traditional, no-holds-barred steakhouse that doesn’t mess around when it comes to serious flavor. Other than testing the expanse of your stomach with the massive 120-ounce ribeye for $100, you could downsize to 48 ounces for $43 and pair it with Gregory’s world-famous French onion soup. Competitive eater Joey Chestnut completed the 120-ounce challenge at only 8 years old! So clear your schedule for the day and try to take down this behemoth.
Kelsey’s Steak & Seafood

Featuring a large cow out front of the establishment, Kelsey’s is located a few minutes away from Valparaiso University in Indiana. The unofficial mascot is fitting, considering Kelsey’s serves up a 96-ounce ribeye for about $45. Although it’s not really advertised, it is a challenge in itself to finish. Kelsey’s has recently taken shape as a premium steakhouse, so I’m assuming advertising the challenge is bad for an up-and-coming signature steakhouse. But I bet if you ask some locals about it or an old bartender, they could probably lead the way for you.
Thorny’s Steakhouse & Saloon
Sixth Avenue South Shopping Center
600 S. Kings Hwy.
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
(843) 448-2333
Don’t allow this chain steakhouse to fool you; Thorny’s packs a lot of flavor into large portions of steak. So growth can only be attributed to success. Its challenge boasts of an 80-ounce steak dinner, including a baked potato and side salad for under an hour or pay the price. For $70, it’s a hefty price at that. If you find yourself near the Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, definitely stop in and test your mettle against this classic.
Main Street Saloon
1481 S. Main St.
Akron, OH 44301
(330) 724-8855
Located on Akron, Ohio’s main drag, this biker bar steakhouse is no stranger to large portions and great flavor. The saloon features a steak named the Challenger for an appropriate reason. The steak weighs in at 80 ounces and is served with a baked potato, roll and 22-ounce soda. Finish it all and it’s free; otherwise pay up!
Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen
10519 SE Stark St.
Portland, OR 97216
(503) 252-4171
Sayler’s is possibly the home of the original large steak challenge. It started in 1948 with founders Dick and Art Sayler offering a free meal to those who could finish this monster steak dinner. The competition is a 72-ounce steak served with 10 French fries or a baked potato, a slice of bread, two celery sticks, two pickles and two olives — all consumed in under an hour. If completed, the meal is free; if not, pay the man. It’s $65, to be exact!

The Big Texan is the most infamous of the big steak restaurants in the game. It has been featured on everything from the Great Food Truck Race to American Idol. This massive steakhouse serves up America on a plate in the form of a 72-ounce steak with baked potato, shrimp cocktail, a salad and a dinner roll. Finish it in under 60 minutes and your meal is free, or just enjoy it at your leisure for $72. Joey Chestnut finished the challenge in under 9 minutes, only to be defeated by Molly Schuyler, who finished it in only 4 minutes, 18 seconds; she also finished three of them in 20 minutes!
J & R’s Steakhouse
181 NY-25A
Rocky Point, NY 11778
(631) 744-2101
J & R’s Steakhouse is as fine of an establishment as you could ask for. It takes pride in serving up the best dishes it can, and it shows in the signature 32-ounce porterhouse steak for around $28. However, if you wish to live a life of infamy, you can try to best its 76-ounce steak. If you can finish it in under an hour, it’s free; if not, you’re out 60 bucks.
CarneVino
The Grand Canal Shoppes
3325 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 789-4141
CarneVino is an Italian-style steakhouse that brings a lot to the table in the form of flavor and choice selections of beef. Its beef is often above the USDA’s standards for beef. The La Fiorentina is a large porterhouse steak that features both filet and strip meat served with a delicious seared crust for $170. At that price, I’m sure the portion is quite sizeable, especially it being an Italian establishment!
