How To Survive College Finals Week

Off-Campus Living

With finals week just around the corner, the stress may have already started. Waiting until the night before to study will only make it worse. In order to do well on your exams with minimal stress, follow these seven tips and you’ll be sure to survive finals week!
Study space: Studying at home works for some students. However, if it’s difficult for you to find a quiet place to focus, then maybe it’s a good idea for you to find yourself a new study space. Consider renting a study room in your school’s library. Act quickly though; those spots seem to fill up quick during exam week. If rooms are already taken, find an open table in a quiet place in the library and study there. If libraries aren’t your thing, try to find a quiet place outside. Spread a blanket in the grass and bring all your study necessities!

Keep your phone out of hands reach: Having your phone right by your side will only be a distraction. Either turn it off or keep it out of reach, to minimize the chance of you picking it up to see what your friends are up to on social media. When I need to study, I usually give my phone to my roommate to either hold on to it or hide it from me. If my phone is right next to me it’s hard for me to resist the temptation to pick it up.
Study groups: Forming a study group with your classmates will help you get a better understanding of the class material. If you’re confused on a topic, chances are someone in your group can explain it to you in a way that you will understand. Make sure to use the study group wisely and don’t use to discuss other events going on in the world. Use the time to review class material and go over questions anyone may have. only.

Use a planner: Time management is crucial! Write down exam dates and block out times for studying. Jot down important due dates and any other activities on your to-do list. Planning out your weekly activities is key to good time management and will help keep you on track!

School resources: Don’t be afraid to get help. Utilize professors’ office hours and get the help you need. Review any questions you may have about class material or even the layout of the exam. Another option is getting extra help by booking a tutor. Check out your campus tutor sessions and see if you can schedule study session for your upcoming exam!
Study system: Whether it’s using flashcards or creating a study guide, find what works best for you. Next, create a schedule for your study sessions. Make time for short breaks to keep your brain from melting!
Eat right and sleep tight: Lastly, make sure you are eating healthy and getting enough sleep. Don’t go for the junk food. Make time to eat something healthy and filled protein to keep you going throughout the day. Remember, don’t forget to get your seven to eight hours of sleep. Sleep deprivation and eating junk food will only leave you with little motivation and feeling groggy!
