Two people living in a 33 sq feet apt. , with one closet........
Not a good idea. It is a walk in closet, but it is the only closet in the apartment. That means coats have to go in there, too. the pantry is a joke, about half the width of a normal cupboard. The bath room is large but the sink cabinet is small and the only storage in the bathroom. There is a linen closet, but it is so shallow blankets hardly fit in it. I have under bed storage boxes for the rest of my linens. The kitchen has cheap counter tops and the refridgerator is the smallest one I... have seen. When I did the walk through with the manager, I pointed our that it wasn't very clean. Her remark: "Well, if you really look, sure you'll find something." The maintenance staff has only one guy who knows what he is doing, and it takes at least 3 or 4 days to get someone to look at a needed repair, and the guy has to come back at least twice to fix it. He is a pleasant man, but there are not enough people on his staff. The kitchen is small, and though the hallway has room for a small computer desk (mine does not fit) I use it for a bookcase pantry for all the things that won't fit in the kitchen. It is a 55 community, and generally the neighbors are friendly, but the pool is in the complex across the street which is section eight with lots of children It's scary because I met a young woman who broke up with a Crip gang member and everyone she dates gets killed with multiple shot wounds. There is a tiny hot tub in our courtyard, but it has been out of commission for a year and still not fixed. My husband thinks that the aportment would be fine for one person, but I have met people who live alone in this same apartment and they feel the same way I do...too small. The manager is sarcastic when you talk to her and dismissive of any complaints. The lease is 84 pages long, which they, of course, skim through when you sign.the lease. I am looking for a new place to live, and with the housing bubble in San Francisco and the whole Bay area, the prices just keep going up and up all the way to Manteca. We are retired, so I am looking for places two hours away in order to find affordable rents. About the only good things I have to say about this complex is that they keep the hallways and grounds well kept and the elevator always works. We are paying the highest rate for this apartment, because when we moved in we were assured that we would be moved into a rent reduced apartment when our name came up on a list in another bldg. Didn't happen.
