Nice-Looking Façade is Masking Problems
What appears relatively nice from a quick glance on the outside and a tour of a unit or two is hiding poor upkeep, poor management, and poor construction.
First and foremost, management is impossible to get a hold of. Their office hours are scarce, their "office" is a desk in the common area's kitchen, and they are bad at answering phone calls. Maintenance has been mostly fine, but general repairs--like a broken, beeping elevator--may take a week or more to get handled, and they will be... recurrent. If you have a problem with another resident, management is likely to A. brush it off or B. claim to address it and never will or C. insist on proof. Call more than twice a year? They will intentionally ignore your phone calls--try calling from an alternative phone line, i.e. a work phone.
Poor upkeep. Trash valet is at least consistent, and the hallways tend to be cleanish, but areas like the mail room tend to get gross fast--with the trash seeming to sit for extended periods of time. Poor follow-through/reprimanding when residents are gross/unsanitary, i.e. not cleaning up when their dog goes to the bathroom in commons areas or in the carpeted hallways. I imagine it could be worse, they do at least seem to get carpets vacuumed once a week and steam cleaned maybe once a month. Snow removal is lacking.
The construction--while not necessarily management's fault--is something to keep in mind. The caulking in the shower is poor and will flake off constantly, plumbing is poor, floorboards have dips or bulges underneath, paint is cracking, there's paint on the floor from construction workers. The water quality is incredibly hard, whether that's the apartment's system or Bountiful itself is unknown. Hope and pray your neighbors are quiet ones, because you'll be able to hear most anything. The noise dampening is nonexistent and the quiet hours are rarely enforced--given that management isn't really active.
Overall this property had and HAS so much potential, but is let down by poor management who do not care to see the community grow, thrive, or improve. Shameful.
