Disgusting housing and dishonest management
My husband and I were looking for safe clean housing for our family. We have a 1-year-old son. We toured the apartments and the apartment that was shown to us was cute and clean. we decided to move forward and filled out all of our applications and paid a $299 deposit. We choose a 3 bedroom on the 4th floor. We had our home fully packed and movers and friends ready to help us move. We went to sign our lease and tour our new apartment.
There were signs that I completely missed. First, they... refused to let us see the apartment until after the lease was signed and the deposits and first months' rent were paid. That should have been my first clue. We proceeded with the signing, which was difficult as there was a language barrier. The second warning sign I foolishly brushed under the rug. My third clue should have been the young lady sitting by the office with a hoover carpet cleaner and bucket of cleaning supplies.
When we finally got the keys to see the apartment we were horrified by what we found. The carpets were still wet from being carpet cleaning, and not professionally either mind you, it didn't help at all, if anything having it cleaned by a cheap hoover carpet cleaner likely made it worse. There were stains all over the carpet and there was a strong smell of cat urine.
as we started looking in the cupboards we found dead cockroaches in all the drawers and cupboards. and there was a LIVE cockroach walking in the kitchen. If you know anything about cockroaches you know that if you see one then there are thousands more that you can't see.
There were deep gouges in the wood flooring and the stove had all the coils removed and we couldn't find them for a while. The bathrooms still had soap scum in them and under the sinks in the bathrooms were covered in old nails.
I knew I could not allow my son to crawl on those floors. We quickly left and my husband went back to the office and told the staff there that it was completely unacceptable. He demanded our deposits and rent back. We were told the 299 that we paid to reserve that apartment was non-refundable. We have been trying to get it back with no luck. The property was not at all what it was advertised to be. At one point the manager got in a shouting match with my husband, when my husband told him that they falsely advertised the property. I would not recommend anyone live here.
