As Others Have Said - Beware
My first week at Hillsborough, I was across the street at Albertson's, and a contract worker from Hillsborough said, "You live across the street, how can you live in that shoe box? You can hear everything."
I could hear neighbors through the air vents, through the walls. My unit had no heat. The office sent over maintenance who said, it's an old system, we're on the boiler system. One day I went to the office to complain about the cold - there were three other tenants complaining about... their cold units.
If you are a female I do not suggest living on the first floor, as men do walk by at night and will look into your windows. I have a documented case, even though my blinds were closed, men would walk by at night and try to look it. Other female tenants mentioned some of the males were inappropriate.
I would go weeks without sleep because the upstairs tenant slept during the day and was awake all night making all types of noises. Not sleeping at night put a terrible strain on my health. I mentioned it to the office, and was told no one was above m.e. Finally, after nine months, maintenance did discover that there was indeed someone in the unit above me, and in all fairness, they did ask her to be quiet. But my health had suffered severely from months of non sleep.
During the summer I turned on the air conditioning for the first time, and soon there after noticed things crawling on my skin, going up my nose, resting on my eyelids. I went to the office, and the office manager knew immedialy what it was, she said, "dust mites'. In all fairness to management they did send out someone twice to steam clean the carpet. I won't go into detail here, but do your own research on dust mites. Horrific microscopic creatures nearly impossible to get rid of. They also wreak havoc on your health - consequently another health issue for me. Management knew my unit had dust mites before I moved in, and allowed me to move into that unit anyway.
I expected a significant portion of my deposit to be returned and was disappointed. Management claimed they had to spend extra money to "sterilize" the bedroom carpet as there were footprints. That is an outright lie; management forgot that they steam cleaned the carpet for dust mites, and those footprints came right up.
Do not expect your full deposit returned to you. I was scheduled an exit interview to discuss issues, and management never showed.
