I have been living at Ariel for 1 year now and just renewed my lease for another year. I live on the 22nd floor in a 1br/1ba with about 670 SF. I face south, so I get a 180 degree view that includes downtown, Coronado, and the bay. Ariel is by far the nicest complex I have ever lived in. All of the units have tile floors in the living and bathing areas, stainless steel appliances, in-unit W/D, and the largest balcony with incredible views. I also have 2 huge closets--one in the entry way and 1... in my bedroom. I honestly have zero complaints about the unit and the complex.
One thing that might turn some people off is the noise from the train tracks. I'm used to it by now, but the only train noise that was bothersome at first was the freight train that runs a few times a day. When my windows and balcony door are shut, it's muffled and I barely hear it. The trolley and commuter trains are so quick and don't make much noise. I wouldn't let this deter me from living here at all, but I suggest getting a listen before renting.
The property management team is always very friendly and quick to respond. Jackie, the property manager, is the best one I've ever had. She's always helpful and on top of things.
One of the best things about this place is the location. It's so convenient to all of Little Italy, but also easy to get to all other downtown locations and the freeway. We are right across from the trolley stop, but a lot is walkable too.
I plan to stay at Ariel as long as I'm living downtown. It has everything I'm looking for at a very competitive rate.

Brand new building and yet everything is broken - elevators, hot tub, fountain in lobby. Rent increases nearly 7 percent a year - has been raised $400/month in less than 3 years. Inexperienced management - communication with residents is limited to fliers taped to your door - which is completely ineffective if you travel a lot.
You have much better options in Little Italy with more competent and professional building management, newer apartments with parking included and buildings with... functioning elevators. Incidentally, for the last 3 years they have charged $50 every time you use the grill in the pool area - yet boast a plethora of “amenities.” You can do better than Ariel - and Ariel can do much better by its residents.
