Canyonwood on Upas
Lets start with the good. The place is small as expected but very updated with modern features such as: Stainless steel appliances, bamboo floors, sliding frosted glass doors instead of traditional doors, granite countertops, granite bathroom floors and bathroom fixtures. The pool is nice is size and kept clean on a weekly basis. The location is absolutely superb, you can ride a bike virtually anywhere you need to go including but not limited to: downtown San Diego, Hillcrest, North Park, South... Park, University Heights, and even the water (Seaport Village, Coronado Island).
The things I wish to see change, or that may be out of our control are to be expected. Things such as minimal closet space (which is a fairly easy fix with Rubbermaid closet inserts), no central ac/heat, and no dishwasher. There are pets allowed in this complex and because of it's design, you are more likely to hear dogs barking if your window is open throughout the day. There does not seem to be a bug problem, but I will mention that there is a fly problem. Although the outside structures are taken care of to a certain extent there residue from the palm trees leaks onto the pavement and seems to attract flies. Because this complex is on a steep hill, the sun seems to set a few hours early which may not bother you unless you adore your sunshine and pool side lounging for extended hours. Parking is pretty straight forward, you get one parking pass and gate opener for the lot and any additional cars must be parked street side which usually has plenty of open spots. Rent is due via money order/check to the property manager's rent drop box. No online payments. SDGE is responsible for your gas and electric, which you pay separate. Water, sewer, trash is included in the rent.
Overall the things I like about this place outweigh the negative. The location is key because of it's close proximity to Balboa, the Zoo, and other desirable locations such as Downtown and North Park. Great if you have a dog that likes to walk especially because the area is safe. I would recommend this place for anybody willing to pay the price to have these high quality amenities that are both directly and indirectly a part of the living experience in Canyonwood.
