Unethical and misleading
Absolutely unethical company. I feel completely lied to and scammed.
Initially, my boyfriend and I were interested in leasing an apartment at Glen Haven Apartments. We were working with Red Oak to rent. We didn’t get the unit we wanted, but got accepted for another unit that we were told would be exactly the same but for a higher price, which we were ok with at first.
We placed a holding deposit while they finished their construction. Abby let us know that it would be ok to sign the lease... after seeing the finished unit, and that we would get our deposit fully refunded if we chose to not got through with it. Perhaps it was our error that we just trusted her word through a call rather than getting this in writing.
Throughout this process, they raised the rent without informing us until it was time to sign the lease. Upon asking for our deposit back since it was now out of our budget, Michelle told us there would be no way to get a refund and that it was our fault for taking so long to sign the lease (by the way, the place still isn’t finished). They also responded by raising the rent once more. Apparently, it was acceptable for them to raise the rent since we had not signed the lease yet.
Even if they lowered their rent back to the initially agreed upon rate, I wouldn’t trust them enough to sign the lease anymore. Don’t rent with this place unless you want to be swindled or taken advantage of.
