Break ins and locked mail

Over the last 6 months their has been repeated mail theft and car break in within the gated areas of the community. To combat this the property management has decided that the mail room and package room will only be accessible between 9am and 5 pm..... So anyone with a job cant get their packages. Furthermore they lock the office and cover the windows so that nobody can bring up issues with them. Not to mention their poor communication with maintenance. Submit a form on an app... When will it be... fixed? Who knows!! They wont tell you!

Great location, Great units, Bad security

Great location, just outside Union City BART station, and bus stops. Groceries, wide range of restaurants, shops (pharmacy, dentists, vet, etc) within a couple of blocks.

Great units, decent size, in-unit laundry, closet space, balcony/patio per unit. Overall well thought off apartment units.

Quite expensive, but everywhere is getting more expensive. So not a breaker.

Bad security. Car break-ins inside the “secured” garage week after week. Management will not install cameras at the garage and...
common areas. Lately, there were home break-ins. Still no cameras or additional security. For the price, it’s badly secured.

Spacious and Convenient

This complex is a great place to look if you can commute on the BART, as it is at most a 5 minute walk. We have more square footage and closet space than a small house, and there are many floor plans so you can pick something that suits you. Complex amenities are quite nice: BBQ, pool, gym, nice staff at the leasing office, and garage parking, <.25 mile to BART and a bunch of stores. The apartment itself is nice, well maintained (very responsive maintenance team!), central AC, big patio, huge... closets and bathrooms, nice kitchen, and a utility closet with washer/dryer. Things that aren't absolutely perfect: the dishwasher is not so powerful, the kitchen countertops are laminate, and the upstairs neighbors jump up and down a lot. We're getting our money's worth, even though the price is high.

Becoming Californian

I moved to California from New Hampshire in 2014 and finding a perfect home was a demanding task. It feels like it was fate that in October 2014 when my boyfriend (who also moved from NH to CA as well) and I found this gem on East Bay. It feels like it was meant to be in finding Avalon Union City as our new home. It’s a few steps away from the Union City BART and right across the shopping plaza. This neighborhood feels very safe and the apartments are up to date. Since we live on the fifth... floor, the elevator was such a plus especially on days your feet feels it’s going to collapse after a stressful day at work. The community also has an updated gym that is always clean and complete with exercise equipment. The pool and the cucina (or barbecue area) are added bonus if you feel like enjoying the outdoors. It’s walking distance to the library, Quarry Lakes Park (which is an AWESOME Park), the BART (which is the train that gets you around the Bay Area) and some cool restaurants. I won’t mind living in this apartment complex forever as this meshes well with my minimalist lifestyle.

So close...but no cigar

Pros:
Very Spacious Units with TONS of closet space. There's so much closet space, it makes you want to go buy more things just to fill space.

Great Management/Maintenance. Management is very helpful and nice. Maintenance responds very quickly and efficiently.

Gym. The gym is pretty nice with lots of cardio equipment along with weights and weight equipment.

Pool and Grills. Pool and grill area are really nice and can be reserved.

Parking. Each apartment has an assigned parking space in...
the garage.

BART proximity. The BART station is literally next door. No more than a 5 minute walk.

CONS:

Noise. If you are a light sleeper or are easily offended by noise. This may not be the place for you. The amount of impact noise is ridiculously high. If the people above you are heavy steppers, you will hear EVERY SINGLE STEP. Not kidding. Sometimes you'll also hear people/kids running down the halls. The way the apartments are built (with many courtyards) sound echos up through the courtyards making things 10x noisier than they should be.

Rent Prices/Finishes. The rent is pricey (as it is everywhere in the area); however, for the price, I would expect higher end finishes instead of the peel and stick bath flooring and laminate counters.

TL:DR Great, spacious place to live if you don't mind some noise or if you live on the highest floor.
