terrible management

The apartment management is extremely difficult to contact, exhibits discrimination against minorities, and lacks proper oversight, resulting in a chaotic and poorly managed environment. Management staff have unrestricted access to the apartments, infringing on residents' privacy and personal property. There is a severe lack of security, with no protective measures in place, and the main entrance is frequently left open. Fire alarms go off regularly, raising serious concerns about fire safety... and compliance with regulations.

Safe and Convenient

As a graduate student, I can confidently say that Villages at Hartford is the perfect place to live! It’s not only affordable compared to most apartments in the area, but the rent includes all utilities, which makes budgeting so much easier. You don’t have to worry about hidden costs or juggling multiple bills—it’s all taken care of.

The apartments are spacious, fully furnished, and ready for move-in, which was a huge plus for me. The convenience of having my own private room while still...
enjoying a shared living setup is ideal. The location couldn’t be better—just a short 4-minute walk to UConn Law, a quick 4-minute drive to the University of Saint Joseph, and right in the heart of Hartford’s West End. Being so close to Elizabeth Park is also a bonus, especially for some peaceful downtime.

Safety was one of my top priorities, and this place delivers. The community feels secure and well-maintained, giving me peace of mind as a student living away from home. I would highly recommend Villages at Hartford to any student, whether local or international, looking for convenience, comfort, and affordability!

Security Nightmare

If you can find something marginally better than this place, please do. Management is impossible to contact. No phone number, just an email. There is one person designated as a Residence staff, but they too are often equally unable to contact management. And in any case, it is still just another inhibitor to getting a response.

Random roommate pairing is a hit or miss, if you lease with people you know that would be the way to go. The apartments itself are unexceptional. Ethernet ports that...
are dead and painted over. Overall rooms and shared spaces are small - the place looks like a dorm, which at this price would be acceptable if not for further issues. The internet technically meets the FCC definition of "high speed", but it is certainly not high speed in the modern and conventional sense. Some units had plumbing issues that were resolved, but still disappointing.

Security is incredibly terrible at this place. The front gate, where residents receive a key for, is never closed or locked. The whole property can be accessed by the public. Parking your car here overnight requires some luck, as car break ins occurred monthly. Management promised to put in lights to brighten the area, but that never happened. No precautions are taken - they do not care.

The outdoor area and shared lounge is neat, and they built a new firepit. I just wish that attention was put towards other areas, like security. The laundry is only 3 washers and 3 dryers. Sometimes only one dryer would dry properly. Availability of the machines was never an issue, surprisingly. You also must pay for your laundry.

Overall, it's cheap, and close to schools. If you room with friends, you at least have that to enjoy. Besides that, I would only rent at this place if I had no other options to pick from.

Awful management

Be careful with your roommates because if they are nasty and don’t bother to clean, you’ll be blamed for it just for leaving later than them. You’ll have to be their maids and clean for it otherwise management will want you to pay. Also, one of those roommates harassed me for months and management still treated me like they were doing me a favor by removing him and putting him in another unit. Also be careful because the price you see online is not the price you’ll end up paying; lots of fees... added to it. And also sometimes when paying there are ‘mistakes’ and you end up paying more, and you have to claim it; at least are decent enough to not fight it, but I wonder how many people will not claim it and will just lose their money…
Be prepared to hear absolutely everything your roommates do (at least only in your unit, not the others; people have been partying a lot in other units and I would never notice).
Only three washing machines and for weeks only one has been available to pay with card (physical card, contactless would never work). Another one has been unavailable for weeks and the other I guess you could pay with quarters. Wifi would work perfectly in my unit, but there were people constantly complaining that it would never work in theirs.
Fire alarm went off a couple of times in the complex and they would still blame the tenants for taking too hot showers.
My fridge was making a terrible noise, I was living downstairs and it would literally wake me up. I requested maintenance through the app they provide and they just didn’t notice, so nobody came. When I finally was able to contact management through other means, they asked me for a video of the fridge and its sound, and I said that I had already uploaded one in the maintenance request, and then the manager said that, indeed, they had the video (and the request). So, basically, they just… ignored it? Eventually, after MONTHS, the noise just got lower, but never stopped.
Management in general is just awful, and they got way too much money to be this awful.
Also, sometimes, there are bears around, and people have reported that their car got broken into.
